1.3.0 worked fine, 1.3.1 is unusable – Ubuntu 14.04

Hi there,

with the new 1.3.1 update, I have the following problems:

*) I can't quit it. When I try, it just hangs and I have to kill -9 it.

*) Upon the first start it won't connect/find to any server/libraries. Reproducably.

*) After killing and restarting, it does find the libraries, but does not show OnDeck/Recently added for any. On one of my server I can't enter the library, on the other I can. When I back out of a library on the server where it is possible, OnDeck and Recently added are there. When I scroll up and down again, they are gone again.

*) Trying to start playback also freezes PHT completely.

I tried reinstalling it, didn't change anything. I signed out and tried to sign in again – freezes after I successfully entered the PIN on the website.

If I can do anything to help debug/fix this, please let me know.

Same exact situation here - all 4 of your bullets are my experience as well.  1.3.1 on ubuntu 14.04.1LTS that's being installed from the ppa.

Weird.  These are the exact issues I was having with the 1.3.0 PHT build on Fedora.

Since the 1.3.1 build was not available at the time I wanted to try it out, I decided to just build it from source and the 1.3.1 version is now working as expected and all the above issues have disappeared.

And just to make sure my assumption is correct, there's no way to downgrade back to 1.3.0 via the PPA, is there?  I can't see the old version, and I thought I remember reading somewhere that only one version can be in a PPA at one time.

What can I do to get this working again?  I guess my only option is trying to build 1.3.0 from source?

I have the exact same problems on Ubuntu 14.10, also tried uninstalling, purging, reinstalling but no use. Can't even sign in, when I enter the PIN on plex.tv/pin, I get no reaction, and manual sign in just runs and runs until I have to kill the app. I'll try to post a full log when I get a chance.

Same problems. Can't sign into plex using a pin or manually from ubuntu with latest PHT and PMS. This latest build is completely broken, please advise on workarounds. I was able to downgrade by uninstalling from the ppt, downloading an old .deb package and running 'sudo dpkg -i' on the old build. Here are the older builds: https://launchpad.net/~plexapp/+archive/ubuntu/plexht/+builds?build_state=built

Thanks very much for the link to the archives, not sure how I missed that.  I'm back up and running on 1.3.0.

Are you all using a skin other than the default? I had the same issue but on Windows 8. As soon as I deleted the skins and reinstalled plex on top again, it stayed with no trouble.

Same problem here. Using default skin.

Default skin, no customizations or channels.

I can confirm this issue on Ubuntu 14.04.1 - 1.3.1just freezes when trying to play a file, reverting to 1.3.0 fixes this.

Same here on Trusty. All sections empty on 1.31, quick switch back to 1.30 and all fine again.

I’ve tested this problem with Ubuntu 14.04 in a virtual machine under VMware, and I too get serious problems after updating the older PHT 1.3.0 to 1.3.1, using the normal Ubuntu software updater.

In my case the sections all show up, and I can list their contents, but all attempts at playback end in crashing/freezing.

After one of these crashes it was impossible to get back to the Unity desktop by any means. Even sending Alt-Ctrl-Del to the guest OS had no effect. The only thing that was able to terminate PHT at this point was a full reset of the virtual machine, causing it to reboot from scratch.

Best regards: dlanor

Also getting the same issues - grabbed the 1.3.0 deb from my /var/cache/apt/archives folder and reinstalled that manually using dpkg -i. Would be nice if the PPA could supply multiple versions (and also if 1.3.1 would work!)

Running Ubuntu 14.04.1 server (with X and very few other tools installed).

same results here - running 14.04.1 on multiple different hardware platforms - several different nucs and an AMD based desktop machine.  All freeze - even Quit is non-responsive - and must be stopped with kill -9.  restoring 1.3.0 works, although that is now behaving somewhat odd - after watching a video, contact with the media server is lost, displaying a red warning box in lower right of screen.  Quitting PHT and restarting connects back to media server fine.

Glad I'm not the only one with the symptoms -- I've resorted to using the web UI since the upgrading to the latest version.

Symptoms:

  • Unable to sign into Plex account
  • Constant freezes
  • Does not quit graciously (forced to use xkill or kill via the terminal)

Environment:

  • Distro: Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit)
  • CPU: AMD FX-8370

I've tried installing prior builds (both via the .deb packages and specifying the build number in apt-get) but I've gotten a lot of unsatisfiable dependencies.

+ subscribe.

Same issues on 1.3.1 compiled from git.

Hi sorry guys I have no clue what is going on with the Ubuntu packages at the moment they compile and build fine. And the source works good in other Linux dists such as Feodora etc.

While I am trying to figure out what the actual problem is you can either if you are on Ubuntu 14.04 install older amd64 by downloading them from here

http://yakumo.se/PHT/AMD64/   (There are probably PMS versions here that is not for 14.04 but I don't know wich ones I jsut upped all testbuild packages I had lying around)

Or download and build the source yourself for the version you want.

@Christian Svedin thanks for your efforts on this.

I have in another related post https://forums.plex.tv/topic/129945-updating-pht-to-131-broke-pht-entirely/

I've put a head and tail of my pht log during a completely repeatable play film hang event.  Have also put a link there to plex documentation on generating and submitting logs for anyone who might want to help by doing the same.

Hope that helps.

Should we all maybe post our Ubuntu PHT 1.3.1 ppa crash logs on your fresh https://forums.plex.tv/topic/130297-pht-131-on-ubuntu-broken/ post instead?

Thanks
