How do I search my library to identify all “linked” files?
Time and time again I find random movies linked together.
The latest was Expendables 1 and 2 which were never linked by me for obvious reasons.
Also recently I found Escape From Alcatraz and Escape from LA. Two OBVIOUS different movies and also again, never linked by me.
This seems to be happening with no consistency or relevance to file designation.
How can I search the PLEX library based on linked files so I can, more than likely, UN-Link them?
This also does not appear to be version specific as it has happened throughout all versions and updates, but randomly.
Wow! PLEX is horrible for this.
I have about 100 movies that are “duplicates”, even though I get Info and 2 completely different movies are listed.
Some have 3!!!
This is usually the result of the media files being named incorrectly (from Plex’s point of view) or embedded metadata interfering with the matching (in the case of .mp4 or .m4v files). Any potential naming issues can be addressed by following the guidelines here:
Metadata interference issues can be addressed by “demoting” the Local Media Assets scanner in the configuration of the scanning agent your library uses (Settings -> Agents -> Movies -> Plex Movie/The Movie Database):
Awesome information.
I can certainly see where metadata might cause an issue, or improper naming.
But when “Abominable” and “Smallfoot” are set as duplicates? A bit of a stretch, but maybe based on genre I guess.
Or “Ant-Man” and “M.F.A.”, it’s a little confusing.
And Plex Movie is listed first for my settings…
Appreciate the help. Looks like I have project for the weekend.
No problem. You may want to have a look at Filebot; it can significantly reduce the amount of work you need to do if you have a large number of files you need to (re)organize.
