I know how to put movies into collections, but how do I access those collections? And if there is no way to access said collections, what is the point of them at all?
Support says, "Plex Apps let you choose a Collection for quick access." Where is this quick access?
I have a collection of "Down To Earth Comedies," for example. So if I feel like watching such a movie but I haven't decided which one, how can I just see this list? And if there is no way to do this, then what is the function of collections?
I have hundreds of movies and if I don't have a way to organize them I'm just going to forget what all I have.
But this seems like an incredibly convoluted way to get to something that should be really simple... I hope this gets fixed in updates. I want to be able to view by collection on the Roku and on my Amazon Fire.
Thank you. You don't by chance know if there's a way to do this on the Roku or Amazon Fire do you? I'd love to be able to look for movies on my TV and not have to look through my computer and THEN go to the TV, you know?
I agree - I love the organizational use of "Collections" but accessing is laborious, to say nothing of the fact that it doesn't seem o be accessible via Roku (my other method of accessing my Plex collection). This could definitely benefit from a revisit!

Exactly, what is the point???
I've been asking myself the same question.
I'm using Plex Home Theater (PHT) to watch my movies. But I don't think it's possible to access the Collections from PHT!
And then, the Plex documentation states: "Plex Web App has an integrated, browser-based player to allow you to watch and listen to your media content."
So, do they mean that I should be watching movies from the "Web App"? If so, what is the point of Plex Home Theater???

To access your collections on the Roku:
Select the Plex channel > OK
Select a library from Library Sections > OK
Scroll down to By Collection, the scroll to your desired collection > OK
This takes you to a screen that only contains content specific to the collection you selected.
It is clunky because the Roku app (and all Roku apps for that matter) are clunky by design.
agree on the frustration ... it should be more simple to make collection/playlist/favourites.
Its very easy to make them. The problem is that the different clients have different interfaces that can have amazing, totally crap or non existant usage of them.
And even worse about Collections is that they don't even show up in search results. At least if you knew the name of a collection you could search and it would show up.
I agree with this request. I put a couple of the new James Bond movies under a collection with that name. Those movies don't have James Bond in the Title. When I search my library, it should show the collection James Bond under the results. That would seem to be the point of collections.
(I made a workaround for this by putting James Bond at the end of the sorting title, e.g. original title - James Bond. This way, the originale title will be shown in Plex and the movie will be sorted based on the original title, but when I search for James Bond it will still show these files. This does not work for what the topic starter wants however.)
Hopefully I'll save someone the same cycles I spent trying to get this to work. After looking through this thread, and playing with the collections filter, I found it easier to just create a playlist for each "Collection". Playlists seem to be standard on all the apps/devices. The collections thing is great in theory, but it doesn't appear accessible on any device. Since I use several different access methods, playlists seemed to be the easiest method.
Is there a way to see all of my movies while having collections placed in a sub group. Like having all movies listed and for instance once you get to “B” alphabetically that is where you see “Bond Movies” as a sub group/folder. Same would go for Star Wars movies or anything like that? Anyone know if this is possible or am I wasting my time.
