How do I see Season Posters on Home?

Whenever I view a friend’s Plex server I noticed that their Home/Dashboard displays a TV Shows current season poster for the On Deck, Recently Added sections but mine always shows the main show poster. Is there a setting I added somewhere that’s forcing this option? I searched through Settings for Server and didn’t see anything related to it.

Drag zip file to message window and drop it.

Attached. Sorry I didn’t anticipate it being a bug, I just assumed I missed a setting somewhere. The posters show, just not the season version, it’s the main poster. But when I go to the show page, I see the shows season poster like what I would expect on the On Deck and Recently Added sections.

Season posters only show up if the season was added separately.
If you added more than one season’s worth of episodes at once, you will only see the show’s general poster.

Another possibility:
Maybe you disabled Seasons generally?

I double-checked and Seasons is set to Show. Here’s an image of what I’m seeing, to better clarify.
This is a screenshot from my friends Plex where it shows the season poster for Last Man on Earth

Here’s a screenshot of my Plex and instead of the season poster, I get the main poster.

But if I go to the Show’s page in my Plex, I see all of the season posters like normal.

Try updating your own server to the latest release.

Sure thing - I try to keep it updated regularly but I’ll install quickly and report back.

I’ve just updated to Version 1.9.5.4339 but still no change on the dashboard.

I’d wait until new content is added.

This is a “feature” of the server, although I would call it a bug myself

Here’s the way Recently Added" and "On Deck: work on my two servers and on all of those that are shared with me.

On Deck always shows the “Show” poster. Never the season poster. Different servers may show different posters because the admin of that server has chosen a different poster for the show, rather than the default. But it is still the Show poster.

Recently Added will usually show the the Show poster as well. The one exception, and the only exception, is it will show the season poster if you add two or more episodes to the same season, and only if all of the episodes you add are to the same season. If you add episodes from two or more different seasons, you get the Show poster again.

The logic used for the decision escapes me, but that’s how it is. One would think “On Deck” and “Recently Added” would show the poster for the season the episode belongs to, since the PMS server does know the season and episode number, the episode title, and displays all of that information correctly.

Maybe @OttoKerner can explain the logic that insists on the show poster in most cases. Or better yet, tell us how to get the season poster to show up in Recently Added and On Deck, because there seems to be a few of us that have something set up incorrectly, if that’s not how it’s supposed to be.

@psyon001 – your friend has probably edited the “Show” poster from the default poster. That’s a trick I use sometimes too, so that the poster for the latest episode is more relevant than the default poster.

The logic is simple:
if you only add a single episode or several episodes from the same season, you will get the ‘season’ poster.
If you add several episodes from different seasons, you will get the ‘show’ poster.

 I agree. That SHOULD be the logic.

But the truth is, if you only add a single episode, you get the Show poster. All of the apps I have display the Show poster for “On Deck” all of the time (never the season poster) and only display the season poster in Recently Added if you add more than one episode to the same season. The only part that makes sense to me is that it does display the “Show” poster if you add multiple episodes from multiple seasons.

Unless there’s something really wrong in the way I add media, it’s been that way forever.

You and I must be doing the same really wrong thing 'cause that’s the way it happens over here too.

Just added a new batch of TV episodes, some “singles,” and some multiple episodes in the same season. The result is the same this time, as always. Single episodes display the “Show” poster. Multiple episodes in the same season show the “Season” poster.

If you look closely, you can see the “On Deck” episode for “Hotel Transylvania” displays the poster selected for the show, not the “Season” poster. Minor annoyance, yes, but it would make sense to me if “On Deck” and “Recently Added” actually displayed the Season poster, when the server clearly knows what season and episode it is.

I get that’s the way it works, but still it would be much easier to have on deck with season posters. I don’t care what happens with recently added, I don’t care too much about that session and ultimately it’s quite good as it is, but if I finished watching the Nth episode of the Mth season of a show, then it would be much more clear if On Deck showed the “up next” (N+1)th episode (as it already happens) with the poster of the correct season.

I think Plex For Kodi did this trick with some skins, or maybe it was OpenPHT… oh I love unofficial clients ;D

Because they aren’t subject to the twisted criteria and maniacal thought processes Plex employs when developing **** apps for their great Media Server. They got the Media Server nailed. They should outsource the apps 'cause clearly they are clueless.

Obviously developing a great media server takes a different part of the brain than developing a great app - and Plex Developers had ‘the app’ part of their brain blasted away in some horrible work related incident - the result is… well… take a look at any of the apps.

Actually, I think it used to work the way that probably makes sense to most of us (display season posters, that is) back in the day, until we ran into that ugly “don’t add multiple episodes, because it will take away all of your Recently Added TV Shows” glitch that persisted for over a year.

I think one of the side effects of the implementation and/or cure for that programming oversight was the mish-mash of posters we see now.

As I said, minor annoyance, but it would seem an easy and somewhat logical fix, because Plex can and will display the season poster when you add multiple episodes.

Gawd - let’s not get them started on yet another ‘logical and easy’ fix…
Plex and Logic are two words that should NOT be used in the same ‘War and Peace’ sized Novel.

Case Scenario:
The Ghost Wars Season image didn’t exist at your local artwork supply store - or the one that did was so bad I couldn’t read what it said - one of those… Anyway, it was much easier goggling up and customizing a suitable season poster - then dragging that into position than it would be getting involved in another 900 Days of an Easy Plex Fix - when they totally break it on day 1 and don’t get it fixed until day 899 - ‘The Fix’ being worse than it was on Day 0.

But then turn it off for recently added, not for on deck. It is really difficult to understand

Has there been any progress on this? It is definitely broken and does not work as advertised. I add new episodes each day as they are recorded. So, I am only ever adding episodes to the same season.

However, I always see the show poster and never the season poster. Which is contrary to what @OttoKerner stated a year ago …
