It displays: Setting - Burn Subtitles: Always when i click the (i)
If I remember correctly, there was an option to set subtitles to burn: 1 Automatically 2 Only image formats or 3 Always
But in the latest Plex Media Player, I can’t find this option, so it always burns my subtitles… Is there a configuration file or something where I can change this behavior to ‘Only image formats’?
PMP doesn’t need subtitles burning in.
The information in this overlay is simply not correct. It is a remnant of the Smart TV app, (which is where the ‘TV mode’ of PMP originates from).
Refer to the Dashboard in the web app, to see if there is transcoding going on or not.
since this option was removed my ssa subtitles are now permanently burning in on 720 h264 aac videos causing horrendous buffering. They worked perfectly fine in the old version of the application.

Are you sure you are using the Plex Media Player and not the web app?

Have you ever experimented with custom hardware profiles?
Could you delete the configuration of PMP, to reset it to all default settings?
(just delete the plexmediaplayer.conf file)
nope never touched hardware profiles its all default
i just tried deleting that config file and reopening and no difference
whats weird is it still says quality is “original” while its obviously transcoding

the library is 3 folders split up by country

Oh, I see the issue. There is a problem with external subtitles if the season number is 4-digit.
Can you verify with a show that used 2-digit season numbers?
Tried another show that is in the same library with SSA subs (titled like s01e01) and it works like normal with no transcoding so it looks like you’re correct. Unfortunately titling this show like this is the only way I can get the metadata from tvdb to match…
I’m afraid the only alternative is to mux-in the subtitles.
Which is tedious if there are a lot of episodes.

It’s missing a ‘season’ folder. You can’t omit those with external subtitles.
has external subtitles with 4 digit season numbers been marked as a bug being worked on? a large portion of my library is unwatchable now.
