Would like to have an option in the windows plex media server that disables the option to burn subtitles regardless of the type of subtitle or the player that is playing the media. It is fine to be able to have the option to burn the subtitles, but it would be nice to turn it off at the server level so that no subtitles are burnt and so that I wouldn’t have to go under every user on every player to alter this option. In the case of subtitle formats that would have to be burnt, just set it so that in these cases no subtitle is displayed. Given that it consumes a lot of CPU to burn subtitles, I would like for this to never happen.
In each player you can select whether or not you want to see subtitles. In case your device doesn’t support overlaying subtitles, the server needs to burn them in - no other option. If you don’t want that to happen, disable it on devices that need transcoding (~ burning in) and leave it enabled on other devices.
So you basically want those incompatible devices to default to no subtitles, correct?
specifically what I want is that no matter which player I am using, the ability at the server level to say never burn subtitles regardless of the player or the user. I do understand that I can choose the option on some players but I want to be able to say never do this regardless of the player. I am primarily using roku devices and I don’t have the ability to say never burn, just “only burn for image formats”. I do realize I can go and delete subtitles of this format, but I have quite a large media library and this would be a daunting task. Additionally many friends and family access my server remotely and trying to explain how to avoid this is a nightmare, especially to the older members of my family like my mother lol. I am only looking for this due to the high CPU load that burning in subtitles causes. I guess another way would be to have an option to never use image format subtitles. There are ways to work around this, but it is an arduous task given the situation I have described above. Thanks
