How do I set up Plex?

Hi,

I am new to Plex, and was told that it was a great way to watch TV shows and movies etc. The person I talked to made it sound like a Netflix type of thing. Obviously that is not the case. Anyway, I am wondering if someone can answer a few questions for me.

1.) Do I need to get an external hard drive or can I just use part of my hard drive on my computer?
2.) Where can I find instructions on how to set everything up properly? All I have seen is how to name things, but I guess I need a “Plex for Dummies” type of approach.
