Hi all, apologies if this has been asked before and apologies as I’m a bit of a newbie to this.
So basically I am moving all my tv shows at the moment on Plex so everyone in the House can access it. So transferred them all over and out in folders I want them in. I.e smallville folder and then in there I had a folder on season 1 all the way up 2 10. Then I would each episode in the right folder with the name like Smallville S0E1- Pilot for all the files. So all programs and all happy. Had a play round looking as you do etc. Then next day I went on Plex on my tv and then all my files where moved into different fodlers and some where called completely different and even had pictures of other shows. (Don’t no how this happened).
So what I want to know is there some way i can turn this feature off so I can put my files and folders how I want them, how I name then and it not being changed.
What do I need to do to stop this and what do I need to get things back to how I had them.
Any help be appreciated and I’ll try but this is all new for me. Thanks.
You sir are a legend. Didn’t think of that. So I tested it and moved some progmras into where you said. And bam original names there but all files. No sub folders like I had. How do I do that?!
If you’d like to stick with a TV Shows-type library, you’ll need to follow the naming guidelines. Similar guidelines exist for movies. Using your specific example, the structure should look like this:
TV Shows/ <--- Library points here, name not important
Smallville/
Season 01/
Smallville - S01E01 - Pilot.ext
Notes:
The top-level folder name doesn’t matter.
The series is matched using the folder name it lives in, in this example: Smallville
The important part of the individual file name is the SxxEyy part. Everything else is extra information. But SxxEyy must exist for season-based series. Date-based series are handled differently, but that’s covered in the document I linked.
If you use MP4/M4V files, embedded metadata could interfere with matching/naming. In this case, it’s recommended to correct the bad metadata and/or move Local Media Assets lower in the agents’ configuration priority.
