How do I transfer my entire library + metadata safely?

I want to go about with moving my PMS from Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS to OpenMediaVault. I have previously tried moving from Ubuntu Server to FreeNAS, yet, I found it difficult to use.

When I moved back to Ubuntu from FreeNAS, I found it difficult to set it back to what it was before. I tried putting metadata and the libraries in the same place as they were before, but I found that it created a new Plex Media Server for me instead and I lost all of my metadata.

I am in the process of backing everything up onto a separate portable drive that I could hopefully migrate the data to the brand new OS.

With this in mind, how am I able to safely transition from my current OS to OMV smoothly?

You likely want to read this:

This seems like a great guide, but I’m worried that if I create a new library it won’t keep the same movies & shows metadata that I have.
Would there be a way to manually edit locations in the files somewhere to guarantee nothing will be lost?

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for and it includes steps for handling different media paths as well. For some reason I didn’t see this post when looking this up.
