How do Plex Apps (Roku, Android, etc) differ in Remote Access to app.plex.tv?

I haven’t gotten any response there yet, and so am trying to get some more direct answers as to why I might be having these issues.

I’m hoping a staff member or other user with direct knowledge can explain how the apps perform their connection. Specifically why connecting with a browser to:

https://app.plex.tv and/or https://plex.mydomain.com would result in a working remote session and yet the apps would be unable to connect.

I saw some indication in a reddit thread that apps won’t connect directly to a server (in the context of using a reverse proxy) and that they will use app.plex.tv. I don’t know if this is true, and if so what it means exactly.

Any insight on this or my linked issue would be appreciated.

Turns out the Android/Roku clients are a bit pickier with SSL handling than the browser.
If your server certificate isn’t handled the way they expect to validate it can cause problems.
