It seems pretty crappy to me!
when was it discontinued to a degree that would imply a detriment to it’s functionality?
I listen to all of my Podcasts on plex. is there a critical feature I’m missing out on?
Indifferent.
Acchon burike !
that’s a shame
I guess it’s time to learn how to use Google Podcasts
It makes me glad I have never paid for Plex Pass.

million dollar idea. I just had a brain blast.
I can set up a Podcast downloader to update my shows and then have plex read them as their own Audio Library. weheheheh
I find the explanation of how to export the podcasts using the Plex token extremely infuriating. Like, really? That’s what you consider user friendly? Having to grab a token in which many users may not or would have never had to otherwise know that a token ever existed, use it to export a podcast. The hell?!
Luckily, I been using another Podcast player but still. This is just grossly negligent on Plex and teams part. A whole entire year with little to no effort, but they sure spent that investment money on features like Discover, where it clearly matters.
I never saw the Plex podcast capabilities as all that useful. Interesting to dink around with but redundant. So guess I’m just as happy that Plex has one less thing to support.
I find it quite disappointing as I am using the functionality on a daily base…
The Podcasts were the reason I signed on with Plex! Very disappointed. I spent hours scrolling through all the different podcasts to come up with a perfect list.
I guess I’ll have to hand write each them down now.
Bad choice by PLEX.
Agreed, indifferent. I’m invested in other podcast players & ecosystems.
@kristimather did you see the link in the announcement? It’s possible to download your list of subscribed podcasts from Plex, which can be imported into many other players.
the link page went blank, then nothing. My settings might be off, I don’t know if I want to take the time to figure out the token thing. Thanks, though.
Surprisingly, there isn’t actually much out there to sync podcasts between different devices, particularly devices that run different OS’s. This was possibly the only worthwhile and unique online feature Plex has ever had and it meshed surprisingly well with the personal media server side of things in keeping track of the users media and syncing status between devices.
That being the case and Plex Inc being what it is, I guess it therefore stands to reason that it was basically abandoned and left to rot from the moment it launched and only a matter of time before it was eventually removed.
I guess it wasn’t providing enough juicy profiling data to sell to stalker firms and wasn’t easily directly monetized by Plex with ads, so it’s got to go.
I suppose I’m not too disappointed as podcasts as media sector really ain’t what they used to be and my listening is now much less than it was a few years ago as a result. Still, it’s sad to see another case of Plex dropping something that was interesting and useful and that could have been really great and unique with just a little bit of love in favour of its new mission of being a dollar store knock off of shady data slurping ad services.
Yet again, Plex removes something that I used and added something I never will.
At this point, I’m not sure if I’m glad or mad that I bought a lifetime license.
It was nice to have a unified podcast app that I could even use on my Roku.
Plex podcasts have never done it for me. I prefer pocketcasts.com which runs on all my devices. Awesome app. Actively supported. If I want to listen via my TV, I cast the app from my phone to the TV.
Glad to see Plex focusing its efforts on video.
What about Plexamp ? Are you suggesting that get tossed as well ?
Plex are focusing on content aggregation.
Sad to see Podcasts go. Plex cleaning out the house but tossing the baby out with the bathwater.
Personally, I don’t use Plexamp, but I can see that many people might really like it. It seems like a more important feature of Plex than the podcast support and I would hope that Plex would continue to support it…
I know the feeling of losing an app that you really love – sorry if I seemed flippant about Plex dropping podcast support.
I’m also using Pocket Casts. It’s great.
And yeah, music and movies/TV shows are what I’m using Plex for. The loss of the podcast feature isn’t affecting me personally. I wonder if a lot of people were using Plex for podcasts. Probably not, and it’s most likely part of the reasons it’s being shut down.
