How do you restrict Genres?

I have a 7 year old and I’d like to restrict things like horror films from her plex account but I do not see the option to do this. I have already limited her account to appropriate ratings but there are some that are still popping up that are technically PG rated but they are horror films.

I don’t think there’s any way to restrict access based on genre. Probably the best thing you can do is to add a Label to every movie you want to make available to your child, and restrict her access based on the label.

In case you don’t know, you can edit multiple movies at once to add Labels, so this isn’t as daunting as it sounds.

Shares restriction: by ratings AND by genre

Hi, I wish Plex would allow me to restrict managed users’ shares not only for ratings OR labels, but by ratings AND genres (possibly a blacklist, a-la “all except…”). Example: I’m fine with my son being able to watch The Avengers (PG-13) but don’t want him to see The Grudge (PG-13). Being able to allow PG-13 and blacklist “Horror” genre would be great, zero-effort to mantain. Label approach requires me to fiddle with any item I’d ever add to the library, not that great imho. The way I do that is by manually adjusting the content rating on those films which may technically be okay for the kids to see, but I don’t want them to. For example, they can see 12A and below so anything which may be a PG which I don’t want them to see (or they won’t be interested in) I put as a 12.

Takes a bit of setup to check all the films in the first place, but not much time to maintain going forward and it’s using the restrictions in the way they were designed to be used, so unlikely to break in a future update.

Yes it is. I am not able to fix the link but if you hover over an item and select the little circle in the upper left corner you can select multiple items when click the edit (the pencil icon on the tool bar that shows up once you select the multiple items.

I have found that if i am editing a piece of metadata that is locked I sometimes have to unlock it first , save , edit again now changing the metadata I am looking to change then then save one last time. the item selection will be maintained so it does not seem like a real big deal.
