Love Plex Home and think that it is a huge step forward. I do have a suggestion for the content restrictions. Right now they seem pretty basic but still useful with the rating restrictions and label exceptions. I would like to see more powerful restriction settings based on multiple criteria. Here is what I have in mind:
Restrictions:
- Have a plus sign where you can add a criteria, such as genre, rating, label, year, actor, studio, collection, etc.
- With the addition of each criteria you can specify whether the content must meet ALL criteria or ANY criteria with the ability to nest these qualifiers, this would be very much like the Smart Playlist functionality in iTunes, e.g. :
Content must meet
(ANY) of the following
- Content Rating: P, PG
OR
- (ALL) of the following:
- Genre: Kids & Family
AND
- Content Rating: PG-13
This would make it so that only movies rated P and PG would show up but with the addition of movies rated PG-13 within the genre Kids & Family.
Can't you do this now by adding a label to the PG-13 movies that you want them to see?
And then add that label to the allowed list of movies...
You would just have to label individually all of the PG-13 movies that you wanted included in the list
But I do see that selecting them individually, if there were a lot, would be cumbersome
The example I gave is a simplified version of what you could do with this implementation of restrictions. Also, as you mention, right now you have to label each movie individually, which for a large collection of movies is an incredible pain. Even if it were easy to label a group of movies, my suggested feature would make it easier to include movies as they are added. Instead of having to add a label each time a movie meeting the criteria is added, it would just be available based on the criteria set up in restrictions.
Would also be nice to add a "NOT" boolean term. For example, that way I could block all Horror movies from even showing up in my wife's Plex view.
Love the idea of "IF this THEN that" permission management.
Agreed. Even just the ability to add a deny label would be a great start.
I like this but it also needs a NOT operator.
For instance, there are a few PG movies that I don't want showing up in the kid's section. Currently, I have to remove PG and then label all but a handful of the PG movies. It would be a whole lot cleaner to allow PG and then add an "AND NOT ".
In a related side note... did you know Spaceballs is PG...
Colonel Sandurz: He's an asshole sir.
Dark Helmet: I know that! What's his name?
Colonel Sandurz: That is his name sir. Asshole, Major Asshole!
Dark Helmet: And his cousin?
Colonel Sandurz: He's an asshole too sir. Gunner's mate First Class Philip Asshole!
Dark Helmet: How many asholes do we have on this ship, anyway?
[Entire bridge crew stands up and raises a hand]
Entire Bridge Crew: Yo!
Dark Helmet: I knew it. I'm surrounded by assholes!
Like I need my 11yr old quoting that in front of Mom. He and I would both think it was hilarious. She would kick my ass.
I'm still in trouble for letting him watch The Simpsons Movie, which is PG-13 btw. Every time he said "bountiful penis" and giggled I caught the stare of death. Sigh.
This would be really helpful for me since genres are scraped and “labels” aren’t from sources like TVDB/TMDB/IMDB, etc…
