How does one see if PMS on Synology NAS is actually using hardware transcoding

Server Version#: 1.13.4.5271
Player Version#: latest iOS and ATV versions

I switched on “let my CPU suffer”, but how do I see if my PMS is using my Synology DS918+ running DSM 6.2.2 transcoding hardware?

I read “look at cpu usage” and check the log files, but isn’t there a more user friendly way?
Somewhere I read that the client is showing a “hw” indication, but that I don’t see…

Any pointers?

  1. Start playback of a movie which requires transcoding.
  2. Look at the activity indicator.
  3. It will show (hw) if it is using HW transcoding.
