How does Plex Agent determine which poster to use and can I configure the source ordering?

During a recent refresh I noticed one of my shows was updated to use a poster that is not the one used by either TVDB or TheMovieDB. This led me to wonder what the Plex Series Agent uses as its primary source for posters, and whether this can be changed? Looking at the Agent section of server configuration I appeared to be able to configure this ordering for other agents, but not Plex Series.

Editing the library appears to allow me to configure the source for episode ordering, but not where posters are coming from. Obviously I can manually change this per show, but I’d prefer to avoid trawling through shows to align them to my primary data source if I can avoid it.

There’s currently no such option.

I don’t think the new source is based on a public database. There’s no official communication as for why they changed the primary poster source. I suppose SwiftPanda16‘s guess is probably hitting close to home.
