How does the plexamp Strings visualizer work?

My favorite Visualizer in PlexAmp is definitely Strings.

But I’ve been wondering how are the waveforms generated? Is each wave based on a specific audio frequency? Any science behind it? Or is it just made up?

Same question for the Spectrum visualizer as well - is it an actual spectrum analyzer?

Any way to tweak the behaviors for these two visualizers?

They’re both driven by the real audio: our audio engine runs an FFT on what’s playing and hands the visualizers 64 log-spaced frequency bands. Spectrum is a straight spectrum analyzer (the bars are those bands, with falling peaks), while Strings draws 20 sine waves, one per slice of the spectrum from bass to treble, each wave’s height following its band’s level and its colour coming from the album art. There’s no way to tweak them right now.

Thanks. I wasn’t quite sure, because they don’t respond quite the way Ii thought they would to the music. Well, moreso with Spectrum.

The way Strings responds, makes sense. But I expected Spectrum to show the peaks of the audio more. More specifically in the bass frequencies.
