How does this not work with Home Users yet?

This DVR/LIVE TV is about useless without support for Plex Home Users.

I was just looking to see if the users could watch live as well. I don’t want everyone using mine

Is there a summary somewhere that I can read that explains what features of Live TV/DVR are supported and for which users in a Plex Home environment?

Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed. I’m even a lifetime Plex Pass user because I wanted new features first.

Sucks that I miss out on them because I’m a “home user”.

so i’m considering getting a tuner card and hd antenna, but this post concerns me. what users will have access to watch the live tv on my plex server? i have “My home” and i have “Friends” i never really paid any attention to the distinction in the past to be honest. my account, my wife and one of my daughters is in my home and my 3 other daughters and my sons accounts are in friends. I guess they technically should all be in “My Home” since they all live here lol. My folks are also in “friends” and they do not live here, it’d be nice if they could view the live tv too as they are on a limited income but its not a big deal either way.

Thanks for any info

I’m not writing this to spite anyone. Just to inform you that there are other options one can use until Plex DVR and Live TV mature(missing IPTV for my own case).
I use Plex every day, but when it comes to Live TV and DVR via IPTV. I use emby, which works very well. I’m awaiting Plex to support IPTV and if I can’t share Live TV with a selective few family members (which are setup under “Friends” and NOT “My Home”), I’m going to have to continue using emby until Plex does support that.

Hopefully it’s only a matter of time

Yup i agree i use HDHR viewer and Emby, for live TV on my Roku, its great and the TV guides are better, i use the DVR and the poster Guide for Scheduling recordings on Plex

I share my Tuners over the internet to my friends via HDHR channel plug in and a few friends have Emby,

I own 2 HDHomerun tuners so 4 tuners in total on my Network and they are flawless

x.x.x.200 for plex dvr recording
x.x.x.210 for emby or HDHR viewer

So if a friend is watching Live TV it does not interfere with any recordings i am doing on Plex.

What kind of client do you use to watch Emby? Specifically, are there clients for Roku and FireTV?

Yes

I second this. Not having support for home users (aka my wife) makes this a deal breaker. I understand that legally there are probably repercussions to allowing the rebroadcasting to people outside of your home, but for people that live with you and have their own Plex account in order to have separate play lists/watched info/etc this is a must have.

I’m sad that it’s only for iOS or Android TV devices, as I don’t have any of those, but I understand the need for them to roll out new feature additions slowly. Nine months ago, Plex DVR was just becoming an option.

The fact that I see regular progress in this area, shows that they are working on improving it. But I’m not about to start calling Plex useless just because in their baby steps it doesn’t work 100% the way I was hoping.

You’re not missing out because you’re a Home User. It’s still available for the owner account.

Exactly this, I want to retire sageTV but can’t until managed users can access livetv.

I don’t want everyone in my house using my main account. I have libraries that are hidden from other users.

Patience. We couldn’t get everything we wanted to in the first release, but we’re definitely working on Home User support.

Awesome! Glad to hear it’s in the works!

@keithah How is this support coming? I signed up for PlexPass Lifetime primarily for the coming DVR support at the time. Now that it’s here, it’s great, but only under the owner account (and presumably when you get Apple TV working). However, it’s pretty useless without Home User support, for obvious reasons (restricting libraries, etc). I don’t use the “owner” account on any device and it’s PIN protected.

IPTV works with plex dvr perfectly fine  providing you have an TVHEADEND server as well

I use a hosted IPTV solution. So I don’t need TVHeadend and I have tried(still have it installed as an option just in case) IPTV plugin for Plex. It’s just to unstable for daily usage/multiple users and no (real)EPG, DVR etc.
But it’s a great option if one can’t install emby

It’s great that Plex is making DVR an option, but native support for IPTV sources/tuners and Xml TV Guide information is what I’m really hoping for sometime in the future
