How fast my processor has to be in order to play 4k UHD 2160p movies on my TV?

Hi You specs look fine, it should be able to steam without issue. The most likely issue with be your bandwidth. What is your DL and you UL.

You need a minimum download speed of 3 Megabits per second to watch a single video stream in clear, standard definition. The best Internet speed for HD streaming is 5Mbps, and if you go all the way up to 4K streaming, or ultra HD, your bandwidth should start at 25Mbps.

@umaradam I will think about it, the Apple TV came with a DirecTV Now subscription and I had the Roku for a while acquiring a 3rd device will be insane :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

@aaseef021_gmail.com it is a local network I should not have issues with connection, both the Roku and the Apple TV and even the Samsung TV are wired, the PC where the Plex Server is wired as well, the speed should be 1Gbps.

you could replace both the ATV and Roku with the shield, it can do pretty much anything they can do, and do it better (except iTunes on the ATV.)

Interesting, than it should not take that long. Maybe you can run a wireshark trace when viewing this to see what is occurring when steaming this. Maybe there is something else being ran in the background.

Yeah I can do that but where I can sell those two to pay off the Shield TV? That’s my problem lol :joy:

There is something in background the transcoding of HVEC in a processor not capable to do it

Hi Reynle

I am still researching into this and see if I can find something. Read this article while i do some research, let me know if this helps

@umaradam do you know if the Xbox One X Plex Client does required transcoding also when subtitles are enabled? Where I can find that kind of information?

Hi Reynle

I am uncertain, possible it may. Maybe one of the Plex employee can answer this

Plex on xbox/ps4 is buggy from my experiences in the past. Best thing to do is ask around on the forums. I use a shield as my server and client so i know for sure it works on there.

So @umaradam … I guess that when you said ā€œuse an nvidia Shieldā€ you were referring to setup a Plex Server in there like shown here right? I have tried a similar movie and still transcoding (see below)

@ReynierPM Install Infuse on your Apple TV and see if that 3rd party program handles it better.

I will try a few more and if I don’t run into any issues I will pay for the full subscription which apparently is mandatory for use the tool unless I miss something

Excellent. Glad to have been of service. I can recommend paying for it. It is the best Plex app for iOS.

No i meant to use the shield as playback client.

Sadly is not working for me, I just got a brand new one and you saw the result. Is not working I will do more testing and I will return it if it does not work.

Anyways @Peter_W solution does work perfectly!!

Glad to see you have got a fix. Wonder why the shield didn’t work. Maybe some settings or cable connection.
