How to access the Plex Experience Preview (Android mobile, iOS, tvOS)

As mentioned in our blog announcement, we’re excited to share this Preview with you, our dedicated community. Please expect this preview of Plex to continue to evolve as we gather your input ahead of our early 2025 full release.

We recommend spending some time with the new app—a week or two, or even three—to fully settle in and see how it feels. We will be updating the preview ~weekly so be sure to check for updates on features and changes in our release notes forum topic.

Tip: Our new Plex Experience Preview apps can be installed alongside our existing, regular apps. That allows you to use both apps on the same device and not have to choose one over the other.

Android (mobile)

To access Plex Experience Preview for mobile Android devices, you first need to have your Google Play account “opt in” to test the preview app. This is done by following the steps below (when signed in to the appropriate Google Play account).

  1. Go to Google Play Store Testing, making sure you’re signed in to Google Play with the same Google Play account you’ll be using on the mobile device
  2. Select Become a Tester
  3. Install the Plex Experience Preview app from the Google Play Store

Updates

We are planning regular updates to the Plex Experience Preview app, which will be distributed automatically via the Google Play Store.

Be sure to checkout our release notes thread to see what’s changed between releases.

Tip: You can check your Google Play Store app for application updates to ensure you’re running the latest version of our preview.

To Stop Testing

If you wish to stop testing our Plex Experience Preview, just head over to Google Play Store Testing, make sure you’re signed in using the same Google Play account as before, and select Leave The Program at the bottom of the page. (see screenshot below).

Apple TV (tvOS)

To access the new Plex Experience Preview for Apple TV, please follow the steps below.

I’ve Already Joined the Preview for iOS/iPadOS

Users who have already been using our Experience Preview app on iOS/iPadOS will automatically have access on Apple TV, as well. To access on tvOS, simply:

  1. Make sure you’re signed in using the same Apple account/Apple ID as you used for the iOS testing
  2. Install the TestFlight app from the App Store on the Apple TV
  3. Open TestFlight on Apple TV and install the Plex Experience Preview app

Note: An iPhone, iPad or Mac is required to join Apple TV preview in testflight. You must be signed in to the same App Store account you used on your device.

I Have Not Previously Joined on iOS/iPadOS

  1. Open and accept this link on your iOS/iPadOS device TestFlight Invite: Plex Experience Preview
  2. Install the TestFlight app from the App Store on the Apple TV
  3. Open TestFlight on Apple TV and install Plex Experience Preview.

Note: Apple requires first accepting the TestFlight invite link via an iPhone or iPad. If you do not have one of those, you will be unable to install the Plex Experience Preview on Apple TV/tvOS, unfortunately.

Updates

We are planning regular updates to the Plex Experience Preview app, which will be distributed via the TestFlight app from Apple and need to be installed manually by default. You’ll also receive push notifications when these are available.

Be sure to checkout our release notes thread to see what’s changed between releases.

Tip: You can optionally enable Automatic Update under the App Information section of TestFlight to have the latest version of the Preview app at all times (see screenshot below).
