Hi,
I’m trying to add a second server on my Windows PC, and to say I am absolutely lost would be an understatement. I’ve had a search, and can’t find any guides, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I can’t find any options for adding a server beyond the one that’s already installed.
install Plex Media Server on the new machine. If there was already a server installation on that machine before, purge all traces of it beforehand: Uninstall Plex Media Server | Plex Support
Remove all plex-related entries from the machine’s hosts file, if there are any.
open the local web app from the new machine http://ip-address:32400/web
Use a regular web browser, preferably in “incognito”/“private” mode. All browser add-ins, web filters, and VPN software must be disabled.
login to your existing plex.tv account
wait, until the web app alerts you to an “unclaimed server” in your local network.
I’ll give this a try. Just to clarify, as you reference a new machine, this is to install two servers on the same Windows PC. Will this method work for that?
I have a library of stuff I use for my academic work, and then the films/tv shows etc for my personal live. I was attempting to keep them totally separate, but I suppose I can work round it with categories!
the only way to have multiple pms on a single physical machine is through virtualization.
but virtualization also adds potentially several other complicating factors, for which if you are not already familiar with vm technology, might be more effort than desired.
“Libraries” (in Plex terminology) are the best way to separate those items here.
You can easily decide not to share or otherwise restrict access to these.
If you remove the library from the left side bar, it won’t even contribute to the home screen. So you can tuck these things away neatly.
