Using Mac/Firefox (Apple TV4)…after I search for a film, how do I then add it my Watchlist?
There’s usually a Add to Watchlist command in the item’s context menu (or when long-pressing it in library view on the big-screen apps). If you’re on an items details page there’s an icon next to the title to add that movie to your watchlist.
This should be available for media from your own library, the “Movies & TV on Plex” section as well as items you find using the new Discover section.
You should also get a button to add items to your watchlist while watching a trailer (similar to the Skip Intro button).
Edit:
here’s how you can add items to the watchlist straight from search

Thanx for replying. I don’t see any “Add” button or link. I’m using Plex Desktop, is that Add to Watchlist function not included?
Is watchlist only available for Plex Pass users? I have no problem using it myself, but my son who has his own Plex account (free account) does not seem to have the “Add to Watchlist” option.
Ah… sorry.
Interestingly this used to work from https://watch.plex.tv as well. Not sure what happened to that. Can you open https://app.plex.tv/desktop – there it’ll be working for sure (just tested it).
There’s no restrictions. Just make sure to use the latest versions of the applicable Plex clients – if you’re using Plex Web, make sure to use the hosted version (https://app.plex.tv/desktop). The version bundled with your local server does not yet have that capability.
When it comes to media from your own server, make sure your libraries have been upgraded to use the current-generation Plex agents (e.g. Plex Movie, Plex TV Series…). Only libraries with their media matched to those agents can use the feature.
Ok this is odd - my library is set to use the new agent (Plex TV Series), and most of the shows seem to work just fine and display the icon for Add to Watchlist, yet other shows in the same library do not have that option. I can’t seem to find a pattern as to what shows do and what ones do not. I’m guessing it may be the older shows in my library in regards to when it was added vs when the show actually aired. An example would be Rat Patrol has the icon yet Smallville does not. I believe I added Smallville like 10 years ago and Rat Patrol only a few years ago. Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Perhaps I need to do a refresh of the metadata?
Thank you very much. The link you sent was different from the URL I’d used to first logon – your linked worked.
I used Plex for several years streaming my own videos; but about 1 1/2 years ago, I switched to Emby which I’ve found to be faster, generates more accurate metadata, more options for getting metadata that needs to be corrected. Emby works very well with Apple TV4.
Given Plex’s new option to Just Watch, I may give the streaming function another try.
Thank you very much for solving the Watchlist problem…much appreciated.
That sounds like a good way to go.
Could be some of those shows are still linked to the old agents. Refreshing the library’s metadata should overcome that.
@jersydevil62 - did the meta data refresh fix the ‘no Add to Watchlist’ issue for you?
Yes doing a metadata refresh fixed the issue for me.
Thanks. I will run one now too.
