How to address bogus dates on photos posted on PLEX?

I have perhaps a thousand photos posted on my PLEX Media Server. Some came from DSLR photos taken in the past, but many others came from scanned images created just recently.

The photos appear beautifully, and show up in the folders I have created for purposes of organization. No problem there. My problem is with the “date” ascribed to each photo and the practice of my PLEX Players always wanting to display photos on the “home” screen by “year.” The flaw in this is that the dates are nearly all wrong, and thus not just irrelevant, but annoying.

Any image that I scanned from hard-copy print has a recent date that has nothing to do with the date/year the photo was actually taken. Even many digital images have been “PhotoShopped” at a later date. And, strangely, some photos are dated randomly at dates decades into the future (one is dated 2199). I have no idea why that has happened.

The point is that I would like to eliminate the confusion and messiness caused by these bogus dates? Is there any way to disable “date” sorting within the PLEX player?

Short of that, I suppose I would need to use a Tag editor or file manager to manually modify the dates of each photo jpg file. Alas, I have no idea what year any of the scanned images were taken.

Have any of you experienced this problem.

Any suggestions? Please advise. Thank you.

This is happening to me - sort of.
Copied/pasted photos from SD cards on my Plex server to folder on the server. Added folder as Photo type, but found some photos taken on the same date from same camera show up in the auto ‘Photos from 2019’ heading where others show in the ‘Photos from 2010s’ heading.
Info on files confirm date of file is 2019.
Very confusing.
As a side note… the only ‘year’ of when these pics were taken in this library was 2019. If the 2010s… heading is supposed to represent all photos in the current decade of 2010s… this is not useful in my opinion. But especially is all files in the library are from the same year. Just my opinion. But not sure what intent of design was. Just starting to use the photos

feature. :slight_smile.
Thx,
Aaron
