Hello,
I have many photos ~2000 with wrong date in timeline 1Jan 1900.
I removed library and add again, reinstalled Plex.
Nothing help.
There is so many people with this problem and it is ignored.
I quit from payied version because of this
Add the possibility to push this photos (1 Jan 1900) to the end of timeline .
If i want to see photos on time line i have to scroll 2000 pictures to get newest.
It is horrible.
Welcome to Plex.
I’m having the same problem. The metadata in the photos says one thing, then the server sets it to Jan 1, 2000. I go in, manually set it to the correct date (sometimes time of day), and then it’s a crap shoot. I have pictures all set to the same day (taken minutes apart) and Plex sets them to a 2 week period, day by day.
Seriously, we paid for this service. We fund the paychecks for the people that write this code.
I was having the same issues with plex photos timeline not showing the correct date.,
Well, this weekend I updated the plex server app on my qnap nas and the timeline issue seems to be fixed, I have photos going back 30 years and they appear to be in the correct timeline
what version did you upgrade to? I’m running 1.24.1.4931 and still have this issue.
Same Version 1.24.1.4931 - For QNAP
I did reload the photos folder

Here’s my reply to keep this topic open. This needs to be fixed. My photo timelines were just fine and dandy, thank you ----until the last server upgrade. Now everything is messed up.
Same issue here. Another kicker is that, at least in my case, plex can clearly see the correct photo metadata (evidenced by clicking the edit button) but still arranges things improperly on the timeline. This service is great, but please fix it!
I have many photos in different albums about 100 k. When a new album is added, all dates are correct. But over time, the dates change and photos disappear and can not be seen. I have tried several times to delete albums, optimize the database and add them again. But unfortunately it does not help. I have experienced that the problem came about two years ago. I have been using plex for many years.
See this problem constantly now.
I have a 15 years of photos in one folder, under dozens of sub-folders.
If I remove, and re-add the folder, it’s fine for a couple days, and then gets corrupted.
Hundreds of photos show up with the same day, but are placed separately in the timeline, and not grouped.
This shouldn’t be a hard thing to fix. Easily reproduced.
+1 to keep this topic alive, photos needs a complete rework…
Please Plex administrators. Give us feedback on this. For many of us, Plex becomes “bad” with this. Photo is what I can assume an important part for many users.
Same problem. I thought it was a problem of my NAS but as it seems, it’s not.
For me the issue was the date was not fully formatted. My dates are set through photoshop elements and that lets me specific the year and month without a day. These are slides and photos where I have a month at best which is known. That creates a date spec that plex cannot read. I went back and modified the photos using a linux cli tool to just use the 1st of the month and they all got sorted correctly.

^ This is the best example that timeline is a mess for over 2 years right now.
On timeline photo is presented under “March 17, 2020” but if you open the photo in plex than it shows correct date - “December 6, 2019”
From what I saw after removing directory, cleaning bundles etc and re-adding directory, for a moment everything is ok. But after a day timeline is mess a gain.
I’m tiered of all the new functionality like ■■■■■■ movies or ■■■■■■ live-tv channels from around the world.
If plex won’t fix this base functionality I will migrate to emby as soon as they will add it and will suggest same to all my friends.
I find it very sad that the problem of photos and dates is not corrected. The problem has been known for a long time. I see no other option than to use another media server if the problem is not resolved.
@sa2000 sorry to ping you directly, I saw you under the other issue (DVR etc.) and as I do not know any other user which is Plex Team-Member I though I will try.
Can we get some attention here?
Plex Photo Timeline have above issue with dates for more then 2 years now
Please check my previous comment for exact details if needed I can provide all the necessary logs etc.
Unfortunately, I can state that photo albums still do not work. After a few days, the date is incorrect, which makes it virtually impossible to find older photos. Please, prioritize this.
Still have a broken pipeline. Does any developer know this issue?
