How to configure which default audio codec to use when original is unsupported by device?

Server Version#: 1.42.1.10060 (Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS Desktop)
Player Version#: 10.30.2.3548 (Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2017)

Hi All, can someone please help me.

I am trying to find how I can set the audio codec for my Plex server to use, when it needs to transcode the audio from an unsupported codec for the device.

Currently, when a video has e-ac3 audio, or Dolby Digital Plus as it’s also known, it auto transcodes the audio to opus, which is awful quality in my opinion.

I would like to set the default audio to transcode to, when required, to AAC.

I have looked everywhere in the settings via web app, on both the server side and the player side and there are NO options to choose which audio codec I prefer.

Is this possible and if so, where are these settings please?

Thank you.

You cannot choose the codec to which Plex transcodes.

Just curious, but to what is the Shield attached? Most recent TVs / receivers / soundbars support EAC3 audio. Just wondering why it is transcoding.

Hi, that’s disappointing, would have thought that was a basic feature to give Plex users.

I have an old 720p LCD tv, it supports DD but not DD+.

Thanks for the quick reply.
