Hello! I would like to preface that I am a novice when it comes to Linux in general.
So I installed Plex Media Server on a computer running a fresh install of Ubuntu 21.04. I did this to prepare for the end of Slingbox. There are no media stored on this computer. I added the “Videos” folder to the library for the DVR recordings to be placed. However, when I start a recording, a yellow triangle pops up and it says “No write access to destination”. I tried following multiple “guides” on the forums here and Reddit about changing permissions and I’m still running into issues. Any feedback will help!
“Videos” is a pre-created folder owned by your user account, and Plex isn’t going to have write access to it. I’d suggest creating a new folder, and make the user “plex” the owning user, and make the group “plex”. Make sure where you create the new folder has sufficient free space for your recordings.
Also, don’t create this new folder in the “/media” folder. /media has a special use in Ubuntu that make it not a good location for your Plex folders.
