How to delete auto downloaded subtitles?

So the last few movies i tried to play and use subs with were drastically out of sync. Was a bit embarrassing as I had family in from out of town and was trying to give them the “experience” but yea.

I’ve always meant to start dealing with my own chapter markers and subs etc (since i began plex’ing i thoughtlessly stripped it all out for clean mkv’s) and 2020 releases and beyond is what I was waiting for. (i certainly wasnt going to act recursively, way too big a job) and 2020 was easy to remember as the swap point.

Anyways, I obviously need to disable the subtitle agent in PMS settings, but where is the absolute pile of tens of thousands of subs stored at?

Would be super if we could get a delete all > subs, delete all > thumbs, delete all > previews etc buttons in plex to handle this sort of thing in advanced settings or something.

Anyhow, is it possible to purge these without a complete dump/restart/rebuild of the library?

These downloaded subs can be deleted from the same dropdown where they were downloaded. Use the web app https://app.plex.tv

the auto fetched ones? I see the x next to the subtitle if i expand the subtitles drop down, but that would only apply to that specific movie.

How do i do it for all movies at once? obviously film by film isnt reasonable for a complete purge.

Not possible.
And those subs might even be correct for some of the movies.

oh i dont doubt that they are. I just figured a reset would be the easiest way to hopefully address or potentially blanket fix the ones that arent.

Seems im leaning closer to that fateful delete of my %localappdata%\plex media server folder im dreading lol.

thanks again for clarifying.

in my singular, unimportant, humble opinion - options to clean out these sort of things would certainly be welcome.

so far it seems we have one for preview thumbs iirc, but nothing for chapters, nor subtitles.

aaanyways. coffee time!

If you can restrict the deletion to the usual subtitle file name extensions, you might be good.

ah, i didnt think of that. good idea. Will look into it

I’ve never had the agent enabled, because I have always included a properly synced subtitle file with all of my media. The subtitles available from OpenSubtitles are usually less than desirable, in my opinion.

In addition to disabling that particular agent, we also need the ability to disable the option for users to be able to search and download subtitles in the drop down menu. After all, it is my server, and even if the files are only temporarily stored, I do not want files on my computer that I did not place there or give permission to be used (ex - artwork, etc)
