How to disable free plex content or public access if plex is accessible on private domain

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830

Hi,

I have plex server running behind nginx reverse proxy. Server is accessible on “plex.mydomain”. Everything works perfect except one thing. If anyone goes on the “plex.mydomain” address, free movies, podcasts, news and other plex stuff is there. Is there a way to block/hide it? I use the website to play directly from my server without plex proxy and want the same for the few users, I share my library with.

Because the domain is under my name, it looks like I run some public streaming service with B-quality content.

I tried to disable online sources and restrict access in network settings. Also added "disableRemoteSecurity=“0"” to plex config. Nothing helped.

Thank you

You can only disable the free content for your Managed users. “Friends” who you added using their e-mail account is up to them to disable it on their side.

My issue is not with the users but with the public. Anyone that opens the website can see the free content without having any account.

I didn’t understand. Can you share a screenshot?

Read this thread, Plex Server Web Client Displays Content (Not Mine) Prior to Login, as I am pretty sure it is the same thing you are referring to.

The free content has nothing to do with your server. A plex user can access all that content without even belonging to a Plex server or running a Plex server of their own. It has to be disabled on the user side (managed users are the exception)

Again, read the thread I linked to.

It has been said that this will be solved by a server update eventually.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was looking for.

Thats good to hear
Having my plex server seemingly with “public” access is a little disconcerning to me as a Plex Pass customer. People or bots visiting my site might think it is a better target to investigate further for possible exploits, since it looks like it is a public service. I understand that the bandwidth is not actually going though my network (or at least I hope that), but a “forced login page at all times if the user is not logged in” would be very much appreciated to optimize this.

Is there any timeline on this?

The link in my first post has a response from Elan (CTO) from 8 days ago saying that it will be out in the next server release. Since Plex does not give timelines, that’s all we’ll know until we get a notification that there is an update (either through your server or if you set tracking on this thread, Plex Media Server.

I am running 1.21.2.3943 now and it is working as expected. Visiting the site as an unauthenticated user shows the login page and requires a login to proceed. Thank you for fixing this!
