Anyone with a Google account can stream plex.tv content through my server

Server Version#: 1.21.4.4079-1b7748a7b
Player Version#:

Hello,

I recently installed Plex Server. I noticed that everyone with a Google account can just log into my server and stream free plex.tv content. I do not have the rights to stream plex.tv content through my server in my country. This seems like a really major risk!

How do I disable this?

The content streams from plex.tv. It does not stream from your server.

The content is available to anyone with a plex.tv account. An installation of Plex Media Server is not required.

You can disable the content for your plex.tv account in Account Settings → Online Media Sources. This includes managed users in your Plex Home, as they do not have plex.tv accounts.

You cannot disable the content for other plex.tv accounts.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand that it does not stream from my server, but my server’s address is still shown in the browser’s address bar. I do not mind seeing this content when I log into my Plex account, but at the very least I want people who log into their Plex account via my server to be forwarded to plex.tv instead of seeing my domain in their address bar.

Is this possible?

If they’re using Plex Web, have your users login via https://app.plex.tv/desktop.

Using the hosted version of Plex Web also ensures they’re on the latest release. The version bundled with Plex Media Server generally lags behind several versions.

If your users are on Windows or Macs, have them use Plex for Win/Mac. The application has much less limitations than web browsers. Most media direct plays unless a transcode is needed due to bandwidth restrictions. Also, no address bar as it is not a web browser.
