I would like to disable all transcodes. It’s possible?
I’ve already configured plex in the best way to not make transcodes. And my films are 100% compatible. 1080p MP4 ACC and no subtitles.
But I share my library with friends and when they access it, the transcode starts.
Is there an option in plex to block any transcode? How to make?
I found this option in the transcoder settings, is that it?
- Disable video stream transcoding: Disable transcoding of the video stream in transcoder operations. With this set, the transcoder may still transcode audio as well as remux video.
There is - but it may be a Plex Pass feature if you don’t see this (where indicated):
With the transcoder disabled, instead of kicking in when needed - the files simply won’t play.
You’d be better off having your remote friends increase their Remote Quality settings - to try to ensure they get a Direct Play, but you’re limited on what you can do from your end.
Disabling the transcoder isn’t really the answer you seek.
However, this can help with the issue with HDR transcoding (transcoding HDR leads to very washed out colours in the image, thus this can be a solution to that problem).
that is like throwing the baby out with the bash water.
you are better of keeping 4k/hdr content in a separate movie library (or using labels) to prevent remote users even seeing 4k content.
for a lot of useful info on 4k/transcoding read whole thread @ Plex, 4k, transcoding, and you
