I have found where to add streaming services to my plex installation, however I have not found where to enter the credentials for those services. How can I do this?
You cannot. Plex cannot access your user account on other streaming services. Neither technically, nor legally.
It’s purely for informational purposes. It will allow you to use the “Discover” feature to see what items are trendingon the services you ask Plex to track, and provide a link to the app on your local device so you can click over to it and view it there. Some services (and clients) even allow a “deep link”, which will connect straight to the movie itself, rather than the service’s homepage so you won’t have to search over there. However, some services have changed their apps to PREVENT this feature on some clients for some reason, so the best you might get is a link to the homepage.
So disappointing. I thought this might actually be useful within plex. Stupid me. As it is, it is just useless bloat. Every time I try to implement a “new feature” it ends in disappointment. I no longer recommend plex to anyone and I regret becoming a lifetimer. Spend development time and effort on useful features or fixing long broken things. Maybe ask the paying user base before wasting time and effort. Poor leadership results in poor quality and disappointed customers.
To be fair, it’s not Plex’s fault that this isn’t possible. The streaming services jealously guard their walled silos, only allowing access to their own clients.
That may be true. But it is plex’s fault that this was put in the app in the first place. It has no value and was a waste of development time and money. Links to a sketchy 3rd party website that requires yet another login are just not wanted. I thought I was pretty clear in my previous post. Poor decision making is the root cause here and will ultimately result in the collapse of this software platform.
What do you mean? Discover should deeplink the contents in the Streaming Apps or the Streaming Websites.
