Hello all
I had noticed that some of my TV episodes were not displaying the episode title but instead display “Season1/Episode1” for exmaple.
Having checked on the The TV DB site there is meta data there to display the correct episode title information.
What I noticed was that my media files had “Season 1/Episode 1” (For example) set as the title within the file itself.
Having gone through my whole collection and removed this where it was set (on the files where this was not set the right information is shown) the episode data is not being updated. It looks like the information now stored in the database is persisting.
I have tried to “Refresh Metadata” and “Unmatch” and “Match” option on the series but nothing is changing.
Any suggestions ?
Is there a way to wipe all series information form the database without wiping the actual media files and also neither the complete Plex configuration.
If you have set the local media assets source with a high priority under Settings > [Server Name] > Agents -> Shows > ..., Plex will prioritize the embedded metadata – however the current agent won’t forget that information easily.
In order to make Plex forget it “knows” those episodes under the wrong names, you can force it to drop the information from its cached by performing the so called “Plex Dance”:
[File Manager] Move the show’s folder outside the folder linked to your tv-show library
[Plex] Click ... > Scan Library Files on the library level and wait for it to complete
[Plex] Click ... > Manage Library > Empty Trash on the library level
[File Manager] Return the files to the tv-shows library folder
[Plex] Click ... > Scan Library Files on the library level again
This should drop any remnants of old/bad metadata.
The future “Plex TV Shows” Agent currently in preview will be able to manage this without all those steps.
