I have folders of TV show episodes ripped from Blu-Ray and renamed by filebot as
[show] - SxxEyy - [episode]
However, Plex shows it as
SHOW SEASON X DISK Y
I presume that’s TITLE metadata stuck in when the episodes were ripped, so I used a tag editor to batch change the TITLE metadata to the filenames, so both the TITLE metadata and filename are both
[show name] - SxxEyy - [episode title]
But Plex server won’t show this info. I’ve tried “Refresh Metadata” and “Scan Library Files” but the info doesn’t update. I can manually edit the files, and then the titles are shown correctly, but I’d really rather not do this file by file.
Do I have to delete all the episodes and re–add them? I wasn’t clear how to delete content from Plex without deleting the actual content, too.
If the files are mp4 (or maybe mkv) then you have a metadata problem that is caused by Plex being too dumb to set local media assets low in priority by default. This has been going on for years but Plex refuses to change the default.
Fortunately there is a pretty easy fix:
Go into settings/agents (be sure you have selected advanced) and under both movies and shows for all choices move “Local media assets” below everything else.
then perform the Plex Dance: (perform all steps in order skipping none)
Move the entire show out of the area where Plex can see it
Scan the Library
Empty trash
Clean bundels
Move the show back
Scan the library again
