I created a share folder on my pc, I even mapped it and gave it a letter. When adding a library folder, the Plex server in my PC can see the mapped drive, so I can add it to Plex on my PC. But in Qnap Plex, I don’t see it. Is it possible to do what I’m trying to do?
Yes

Map a drive on your qnap
Thank you for the link. But they are speaking a foreign language. Anyone willing to give instructions to me, but walk me through like a 5 yr old? LOL!
Watch the YouTube video link on that page, go to 2:30 and it shows how to add Microsoft networking remote share. They have step by step instructions.
Okay, so in her example at 2:30, she’s trying to map a folder from another NAS though, right? In my case, I would put my PC as the hostname/IP address?
I’m failing to create the mount. Tried both FTP and CIFS/SMB which I assume is “microsoft networking?” Here screen is a little different than mine since we’re now at FileStation 5, and here video is in 2015. There is nothing labeled Microsoft Networking now, but I’m guess that means the same as CIFS/SMB?
Hello, it sounds like you have Plex Media Server on your PC.
Later you bought a QNAP. Those are nice.
You said you put Plex Media Server on QNAP.
So you have two Plex Media Server running?
Are you trying to move all your films from PC to QNAP?
Or are you trying to get two servers to see the same file on your PC?
Maybe describe your network, server, players.
Tell us where you store your movies now.
Tell us where you want to store your movies.
Thanks and good luck!
Hi Nibbles, you are correct! I have two plex servers running. All the movies are stored on my Qnap. I’ve mounted the Qnap plex folder, as a drive on the PC. So in the PC plex server, I’m able to add a movie library pointed to that mounted Qnap plex folder.
I’m trying to understand if the opposite can be achieved. Meaning we mount a PC plex folder to the Qnap, so we can add a movie library in the Qnap server and point to that PC plex folder.
Yes they are mounting a share on a different NAS in your case you would use your PC IP Address.
Yes Microsoft networking is also referred to as SMB.
Do you get some error when trying to mount your share?
I dont have any qnap so if you can post some shots that might be more helpful.
to nibbles point why dont you just put all your videos on the NAS and not bother with this?
But yes its possible to do what you are asking for.
You can see in the video that after she inputs her credentials, she hits the magnifying glass, and a drop down of all the NAS folders is available to see.
In my case, with my PC’s local IP address and credentials, hitting the magnifying glass doesn’t show any drop down folders. I’m also assuming ACCOUNT and PASSWORD, in my case, would be the user name of my PC and the password of my pc, correct? Not Qnap, correct?
I double checked my network discovery and sharing is on.
Yes in your case you need to enter the username/pass of the PC.
when you share a folder in windows you can select who has access or permission to that share.
make sure the username/pass you are using is setup and has permissions to the share.
if you have a different PC at home you can try to browse to the share using \\ip.add.re.ss.\sharename and you should be prompted to login
Two is better than one lol.
Sure why not
Have you gone into Filestation, chosen the three dots in the upper right for Settings
and checked the box to Show files and folders of my PC after you’ve installed Java?
Have you used the Remote Mount button also pictured above?
I admit I haven’t watched any video. I was busy writing up a howto use autorun.sh
to mount smb shares every boot, when I figured it might be already in Filestation xD
Hi Nibbles, it’s grayed out just like your screenshot. So I figure, you’re saying after installing Java, it won’t be grayed out anymore. So that’s what I did, I installed java, but it’s till grayed out.
Somehow we need to get that box checked to do what I’m trying to do?
It says IE or Firefox will work. I’ll report back…
I don’t have qnap but I’d focus on that remote mount tab.
Show local files is probably just an easy way to upload and download from the Nas.
Maybe if that box is checked, the folders will then show when I do the mount. I’m not at home now. I’ll report back when i get a chance to try it later.
After checking that box, in Internet Explorer, I could see my PC’s folders in File Station.
But as for mounting, it still cannot retrieve folder list, so I cannot select the Destination Folder. In the video, she hits the magnifying icon and she gets all her folders to choose from. That’s not happening for me. But If I manually put in the address to a certain folder, and tell it to create. It says, “Failed to connect to remote server. Please check your connection settings and try again.”
Can you post a screenshot of what you are doing?
What path are you specifying for the share?
We need to know what Windows OS you are running.
There’s a dozen threads on mounting remote CIFS/SMB shares to a QNAP NAS in the QNAP forums, and none of the ones that use Filestation and Remote Mount look exciting.
For example, consider this:
which likely applies to 4.3 best as I can tell. If you’re running Windows 7, there’s more issues.
In addition to those, there’s the problem that an Emby user had, trying to do the same thing as you, but he found that Emby couldn’t access the successfully mounted share because Emby is not admin.
And in the end, I still don’t know if the Filestation mount persists after reboot.
Most old timers seems to use autorun.sh
for crafting a mount command.
Reading about this reminds me why I haven’t touched Windows in 8 years.
