How to install self-made "posters" in my media folders?

I have the following media types:

  1. Lectures, as many as 50 or more, each with anywhere from 8 to 50 individual segments.

  2. Other videos (movies that I have ripped from my own discs, some operas, and various home-made videos from travel). Each of these is a stand-alone file, meaning no segments.

  3. Music, in multiple genres (orchestral, instrumental, jazz, pop vocals, New Age, etc.) All this is stored in a folder structure that looks like Orchestral–>Beethoven–>Symphony #5 . . . or Rock–>Beatles.

  4. Photos.

The lectures I have loaded into a “Shows” library, as that allows me to more easily advance from one segment to the next. The lectures are loaded into a similar folder structure, such as Lectures–>Photography–>Shooting in Low Light.

Plex has the capacity to “go out” to the internet to find relevant information, but frankly it does a very poor job of matching up images to the way I have organized and named the “Albums” (they are not really albums) and tracks (selected tracks only). Most of the time Plex finds nothing at all, and when it does it is nearly always wrong. I would like to disable this process entirely.

So, I have all this media in a master folder organized by Media Type–>Genre–>Artist–>“Album”. Thus, I mostly use the “Folder View” to see and navigate through my media.

I have two primary questions:

  1. Can Plex Clients be set so they always open in the “Folder View”? Instead it always takes me to a “Home Page” listing of tiles, none of which are arranged in a meaningful way. I would be content to ONLY be able to access my media through the “Folder” metaphor, and to avoid this other “Home Page” metaphor entirely. Is it possible to do this?

  2. I have attempted to create my own personal “posters” for each media type/artist/album, but they do not show up. How do I do this?

I created them in PowerPoint and exported the slides as PNG images. Every image is in the 1/1.5 aspect ratio. I have moved just one of these PNGs into each folder according to the specific content. I have set my “Agent” to list the have the “Local Media Asset” checked, and moved to the top. I have done a scan and also did the “Refresh All Metadata” process. None of my “posters” show up anywhere. I have generalized names, but would think Plex would find the only one PNG media asset in each folder, regardless of the file name.

What am I doing wrong?

I don’t know about music but movies, just have the picture the same name as your movie.
