How to make Plex ignore a whole TV show without moving the files

that I knew, wan’t in question…

do you know that as fact?

we know ignore doesn’t prevent a scan from happening. just to keep it from collecting information on certain things that are specified by the ignore file…

to keep from adding to the library yes but… does Plex keep what it already knows is the question…

No I do not.

I would suggest making a test folder and try it.

OK I built another system and did some testing with a TV Show…

  1. .plexignore file would work but had to contain */*.* for it to ignore all the files

  2. If the files are already in Plex, the TV show display a trashcan, the files themselves show under each show as if they were there. Empty the trash removes the TV show.

Doesn’t do what I hoped it would do, mainly just leave the existing files alone and just not scan them…

I guess we need a .plexnoscan to do just that, don’t scan this TV Show etc…

.

perhaps instead, identify and fix/alleviate why it takes so long to scan your library.

  • if you are virtualized > unvirtualize it
  • if your plex data is not on an SSD > move it to an ssd
  • if your content is remote mounted > figure out some caching
  • if you have some 3rd party program that modifies file time stamps > disable time stamp changes

*/*. ?

I know why… It’s a large library… very simple…

Mine is 90+ tb and doesn’t take that long.

You must have h00000000ge library then.

If that is the case, perhaps you should start considering if you should segment at the SERVER level.

TV server
movie server
music server

etc

since with UNO, you can pin across multiple servers, in effect abstracting which server does what.

Just guessing, but maybe the tv shows and movies, etc aren’t really matched, and it’s trying to match them each time.

Could be a file naming problem in that case.

good point, you may also want to check on your agents and disable any un-needed agents.

All shows are matched and have been for a very long time…

I have all the scans turned off… because it becomes a never ending cycle.

anyway we are now off topic, Thanks anyway…
