Request: Exclude from scan option on TV series.

I have a large library and would love to speed up the scanning process.

There are a lot of completed shows that are still being scanned every time.

It would be great if you can mark a show in the media manager so its excluded in the scans.

It would speed up the scans.

Dear Plex Gods, please hear my prayer. think about my idea again. Trust me it will increase scanning time so much with so little effort (at least that is what i think)

Ik have 32TB of has drive space. Finding new content that i added takes forever.....makes me so sad.

So please, pretty please with sparkles on top, add this feature! it would make my day.

(Ore is there a reason why its not possible? Dying to know.)

Have a read of the naming guide and you'll see how to do this. Also make sure you are on the latest server version which has significantly faster scanners.

Thanks for the replay. I did check out the naming guide. I have made an "ignorefile1.plexignore" and placed it in the root of one of my NAS drives tv series shares. in the file I specified all the tv series folder names that need to be ignored and added with "/*" on the end. It doesn't work for some reason, trying to figure it out.

Stil a small checkbox on the plex server web interface would be way easier then creating scripts to instruct the plex server.

Not entirely sure where that filename has come from, should just be .plexignore

I gave it that file name. the ".plexignore" is the extension right? it does not accept just ".plexignore" as the file name.

.plexignore is the entire filename and it a valid filename on all platforms Plex runs on.

what are you using to try and create it?

running mac. and using text editor. Changed the extension but it does not except no file name.

you might have to manually rename it from terminal then, text edit sounds like it is being overly protective...

tried mv command in terminal but it removed the file for some reason. could you send me an example file? maybe I can edit that?

it won't have removed it, files that start with . in linux/unix/osx are hidden files.

type ls -al in the terminal window and you'll see it.

was a bit busy but continuing the project again.

Ok, I made the file ".plexignore" added the following text

/Chase

/Eli Stone

/Generation Kill

/Greys Anatomy

/Home Improvement

/Knight Rider 2008

/Lios and Clark The New Adventures of Superman

/Mad About You

/My Wife And Kids

/Pan Am

/Persons Unknown

/Prime Suspect US

/Sanctuary

/Spartacus

/The Bill Engvall Show

/The Dresden Files

/Titus

I placed the file in the root of my "collection6/TvSeries6" where al the folders are located.
started up the scanner and noticed that it still scanned the folders.

What am I doing wrong?

edit - TvSeries6 is one of 9 NAS locations where tv series are stored.

Still think a small ignore checkbox in the plex server web interface (letting plex create and edit its own plexignore file in the background) would be a great improvident for users, speeding up scans even more and saving valuable CPU resources.  Small effort large results.

Isn't the syntax (according to the wiki )

Chase/*

Eli Stone/*

etc

no go, changed it, still being scanned

OK - have a look now at the current issue i mentioned for your other post here.

See if the problem described there is the same as what you are getting and if having multiple .plexignore files in the underlying folders resolves it

That thread I referred to as a current issue has still not been picked up by the Plex Team. Similarly this one

creating more then 500 plexignore files is undoable for me.I just have to much stuff. I think I will wait till the plex angels grant us with a better solution.

There must be a more user friendly solution to this problem

No I was not expecting you to create 500. I just wanted to establish if your problem is this problem. Just needs one to test this out

Okay tomorrow I will give it a go.

I tried the .plexignore file. it deleted all entrys of the Series which are present in the file...

So i have to readd them and set them as watched. not nice.

I would also like an option for ended Seasons/Series because there is no need to rescan a finished series.
