How to Move Plex media data to separate Drive?

Building new Plex media server/NAS,.

SSD that will have Ubuntu and plex installed is small so wanted to move Plex metadata to one of the separate HDD how do I do that when installing?

Top of this (Linux) form, you’ll find Linux Tips. I’ve shown how to move (clone or backup) your installation.
If you’re moving to a new location, you’ll also want to customize your configuration to point to that location. Customization procedure is also listed there.

so that will allow the metadata libary to be on a separate drive from the OS and Plex?

Your PMS binary files are on the OS drive in /usr/lib/plexmediaserver
This allows you to move Plex’s data, stored in /var/lib/plexmediaserver by default, to the location of your choosing.

I created the procedure because several Linux distros create an extremely small / partition. PMS can generate up to 50 GB of data for a very large media library. This procedure allows you to avoid filling up the root partition and crashing Linux.

Wish the Plex devs for PMS on Nvidia Shield Tv were as kind & thoughtful as you… Been asking for this basic feature for the longest, But get ignored… 16GB Shield Tv for PMS, Like you said, Libraries can go up to 50GB, But they wont allow us to move data to adoptive storage…

Sorry for off-topic… Couldn’t resist…

Funny… my PMS Application Support folder is over 200GB.

Smells like you have “Chapter Thumbnails” turned on for all your library sections. :man_facepalming:

Trim that down by editing each Library,

Turn off the option to generate them,
DELETE the existing ones.

Let’s open a new thread if the problem persists.

This thread should be long-ago closed.
