How to name TV Show files with episode title variations?

I have some foreign TV shows I’ve found variations in the title of the episode. For example, IMDB and TheMovieDB may have slight differences and inside the video itself at the beginning yet another variation of the title may be embedded at the begining of the video after the opening credits.

Is there a good way to captue the title variations when naming the files. I know the standard format for a TV show is similar to :

show_name (date) - sXXeXX - episode_title.mp4

If I were to put the title variations in the file name I’m not sure where to put them.

Thanks!

This would only be for your own interest, correct? Plex IGNORES every single part of your filenames other than the Season-Episode part (SxxExx). It then looks up the show the file belongs to (based on the folder it is in) and retrieves the episode name, decription, poster, etc (metadata) for that episode from online.
Note: I find that Plex doesn’t care if the show-name is in the filename, but people here still suggest you do that.

I see this a bit in anime, where some shows will have a literal translation of the original Japanese title, and also the English dub title (if the literal translation was inaccurate or misleading). Some shows, such as Ghost in the Shell (S01E01 - SA: Public Security Section 9 – SECTION-9) have two separate titles, and I never could understand why.

The good thing about all this is that - essentially you don’t have to care. So unless it is for your own preference, you can pick one title and just use that.

However, if you care, you can simply append the second title to the filename and Plex doesn’t care. So in your example above, you can use:
show_name (date) - sXXeXX - episode_title1 - episode_title2.mp4

This will be for my own interests, correct. Thanks for the response.
