How to override TV show display name in the NFO file?

Hi. I would like that PLEX can use a default name for a movie or tv show by specifying that name inside the NFO file. Something like this:

movie_name.nfo

title=Alita, ángel de combate
sorttitle=Alita, ángel de combate
originaltitle=Alita, ángel de combate

However, when I add the associated TV show in my library, PLEX assigns a different name to it (in this case: “Battle Angel”, instead of “Alita, ángel de combate”).

Is this naming behavior from NFO file allowed?, or I’m trying to do something that is not implemented?.

Note that I’m using “Plex TV Series” agent and scanner, if that matters. I can use other agent that you suggest me if that does not break anything.

Plex doesn’t use .nfo files whatsoever.
Particularly not when using the new metadata agent.

Plex uses the title that’s been put into its metadata sources TheMovieDB.org and TheTVDB.com
In this case, it’s Battle Angel Gunnm (TV Series 1993-1993) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

The only way to override that is to edit it manually in Plex, after the show has been already added.

Or, if you can convincingly prove that there is a different official french title for this show, change it on TheMovieDB.org directly.
But if it’s disagreed upon by other TMDB members, this can get reverted.

Just to clarify: the title was in spanish (official title here). But that’s not the point.

Time ago I had some question and someone explained me that PLEX will try to find an IMDB id (tt******) to identify a media in any file that ends with “nfo” extension inside the media directory. This is not used anymore by PLEX?.

Then now the only way to help PLEX to identify a wrong match is to manually use the “Fix match” option?.

Thanks for your help

Which show are we talking about?
AFAIK there is only one Alita TV show and that is this one: Alita, ángel de combate (TV Series 1993-1993) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

Do you actually mean a wrong match? Because if this show is appearing with

TMDB ID=71999

in its Plex media info XML, then it is not mismatched. So “Fix Match” won’t change its title.

What is selected as the “Library language” in the properties of this tv show library?

This only applies to movies. And even then it will only supply the IMDb ID to Plex. Plex will then use this ID to “match” the movie and then fetch all metadata from its usual metadata sources.
Plex will not use the title of the movie that may have been put into the .nfo file (nor any other metadata in there).

Yes, that is the exact tv show, and PLEX shows the title correctly in English. I’m just asking If there was the possibility of changing this default display name by overriding it through the NFO file.

After your first answer, where you said to me that PLEX does not use NFO files to read these things neither to read IMDB or TMDB identifiers, then I’ve concatenated my question to ask you a different related question because I have much interest to know how can I force PLEX, through a NFO file or through something that can be automated by adding a file inside the media folder, to use a specific title when adding that media in my library. For both movies and tv shows of my like.

In your second answer you said to me that PLEX use xml files to read the metadata. Then now my question (I think the last question) is:

If I’m understanding good, I can put an XML file inside a media folder, with the contents generated by the “View XML” button, and I can modify the “title” field and then if I re-add that media in my library PLEX will read the title that I modified?.

And what naming should have that XML file?.

You cannot.

No, you cannot.

And I suppose there is no chance to request this kind of feature?. To let users be able to add a NFO or XML file inside a media folder to override the value of display title (the “title” field).

It’s already been requested:
