How to prevent Plex from changing it's mind?

This is in the case of Tokyo Ghoul Root A.

Plex recognized the series and added to the web interface at the beginning of the scan. Towards the end of the scan, Plex changed it’s mind and removed the series from the interface.

Is there a way to fix Plex so it’ll quit changing it’s mind?

Say what. Do you see the show in PLEX?

Yep. At the beginning of the scan. Had the proper name, and proper # of episodes. (no cover art at that time yet). Then towards the end of the scan, the show disappeared.

Okay, What is the directory structure and file names?

For example of 1st episode:

K:-= TV Shows 2 =-\Tokyo Ghoul Root A\Season 01\Tokyo Ghoul Root A - S01E01 - New Surge - 576p.mkv

Can you post the exact drive/folder/file name? You can post a screenshot of it as well.

I see thetvdb lists it as Tokyo Ghoul. It does have an alias as Tokyo Ghoul Root A so you should be good. I would if you want to keep the alias is to add the year. Tokyo Ghoul Root A (2014)

Thank you for the reply. Please see the post above you as I have answered that question previously

I’ll look at that. It’s weird as this is a different series. I’ll give that a try tonight.

Thank you everybody for your replies!!!

Not according to thetvdb.com.

As you can see the series has a few names but all are the same (ID: 281249).
Most notably the top two, which have the alias Tokyo Ghoul Root A and Tokyo Ghoul √A

BTW, I hope this was a typo because the episode New Surge is from Season 02

Let us know how it goes.

If you see the blank poster appear at the beginning of the scan then disappear at the end, it sounds like PMS merged the files with another show you already have. Do you have any other shows that might be named similarly. Check to see if there is a blue “2” or other number over the episode image.

Edit - Or you can provide your scanner and thetvdb logs so we can check exactly what happened.

Good Evening!

My apologies for the long response time. I ended up pulling extra hours (as salary  ) at work. I finally have a chance to sit down and look this over.

Looking at the Tokyo Ghoul (first series), I see it now shows 2 files per episode. This is incorrect, unfortunately. So I changed the first episode of the second series to the recommended:

Tokyo Ghoul Root A (2014)

prefix, and started a re-scan of the library. Unfortunately, even with the different name, Plex (or the scanner) decided that the newer series is the same as the older series and provide the incorrect merge.

As for the new surge. That was what Filebot found on every single source I tried

Where can I find the thetvdb and scanner logs? There are (i swear) a “billion” log files for plex.

Ah, I found the following from the Plex Media Scanner.log using AstroGrep

There’s no TheTVDB logs for today when I did the rescan.

(edit): It looks like the forum’s copy/paste function is broken (that is way to small to read), here’s a copy&paste of the text:

As a temporary bug work around I prefixed all the files with:

Tokyo Ghoul - S02

Even though there is no season 2, Plex picks up the files and makes up a season 2.

Season 1, episode 1 = Tragedy

Season 2, episode 1 = New Surge

Ah ha! TheTVDB shows Root A as season 2 … ugh! Ah well… I guess all is well for now  We really, really need an animeDB.

Something like this issue would be corrected better using the PlexDance, once you have fixed all names to conform to Plex and thetvdb of course… If thetvdb says it’s three seasons then that is what you must do. Break them down into three seasons. Just like it’s listed.

I do believe there is an agent for that.

Were you just renaming files and rescanning the library? That won’t work. Plex makes up a hint when it scans a file to help it identify a show. If all you do is rename the file and PMS identifies that it’s the same file, just renamed, the hint doesn’t change so it will just end up being the same show again. Doing the Plex Dance like @NewPlaza says would have helped in this case.
