Plex not detecting TV Shows! Please HELP!

Hi All,

My Plex stopped detecting TV Shows episodes.

Movies are working fine but TV Shows aren’t working (I have 2 library, 1 Anime with a custom Scanner and 1 Series for the rest).

If I remove 1 folder that he previously detected he removes it and if I add it again it detected but for some reason new ones for the last 2 weeks isn’t adding.

I have detect some that is missing some seasons in the middle :frowning:

I have putted 2 new HD drives on my server and move all my library to that and that’s when the problem started.

I try to delete plex and make a fresh install loading the backup and still the same.

I also try to do a fresh installation without loading the backup and still the same.

I am getting nuts with this one.

Not sure what to give you guys that helps just ask what you need from me

Please some one help me.

As almost always with such issues, it may be a failure of not following the naming guides for tv show naming in Plex. So that is what you should try first.

  • make a new, empty folder on your new disk, call it TV Shows test or similar
  • create a new fresh TV Show library and point it to the newly folder created above
  • pick one of your tv shows and correct the file names and the folder structure so it follows exactly the guidelines - see below
  • copy the corrected show into the new folder
  • update your new library
  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system, like § : % *, simply leave them out).
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

If this test goes well, you have to correct the naming of your remaining shows too.
Filebot will do that for you almost automatically, btw.

Hi

My series apart from the anime is like this.

//.S01e01.additionalinfo.ext

Its the same for all.

I will try a new test to see what happens

You didn’t say what the actual shows you are having problems with. And that naming is fraught with a lot of problems. I seriously suggest you rethink the naming you are using to make sure you don’t continue having matching problems. Programs like FileBot or TVRename or even Sonarr can redo the naming to a more Plex Friendly naming convention.

Look here for the best naming convention to use: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows Not following these guidelines is why you are having the problems you are having.

Using the apps I suggested above and you can rename the library in a few steps, regardless of the amount of media you have. I have over 17000 TV episodes and could easily redo the names in under an hour.

Hi Mike

I am having problem on several Shows…

For example Vikings isn’t showing the last season (4), The walking dead is missing the last 2 files and so on… all the new files is happening this…

I have plex for 2 years with sickrage doing the editing of the file and I never had this problem.

The diference on the last 2 weeks is that I added 2 hard drives (10TB) to create a single drive RAID 0 and move all my data to that.

I have done the test with 3 complete series to move to the old destination (1 single drive) and all episodes appear and I put on the new RAID 0.

Could this be a problem the RAID 0?

Why, oh why are you using a RAID 0?
The bitrates of video files are not nearly high enough to necessitate a RAID 0.

And you are aware that you are doubling the chance of a complete loss of your data by using this, do you?

But no, this RAID 0 has nothing to do with your issues.

Yes I know that.

I only have this data on this raid… not importante stuff

I was using the Raid 0 to maximize 1 single volume. but I will slip out the 2 disk and see what happens.

Not necessary. A Plex library can point to several folders/drives at once.

but I will slip out the 2 disk and see what happens.

As I said, it won’t change a thing.

Hi again

I have check the logs for example the season Izombie that is missing S02E13 e 14.

You can see the files being detected.

but then there is no entry of adding new media part por this 2 episodes.

I have other files with the same naming and it works for example the following:

Thank you

Shut down Plex server
erase the http caches for TheTVDB and TheMovieDatabase agents

Perform the magic Plex Dance with the whole tv show.

Try again. If it fails again, please provide the whole log folder zipped. If you’re concerned about privacy, attach it to a PM to me.

I have tried and still the same :frowning:

One question when doing that shouldn’t clear the tvshow from plex? when doing the cleaning?

Send to you the PM will all the logs

Thanks again for the help

What exactly have you tried?
I meant both ‘erase caches’ and ‘Plex Dance’, in this order.

One question when doing that shouldn’t clear the tvshow from plex? when doing the cleaning?

That is the general idea behind it.
So the show gets recognised as completely new when you re-add it. So all the mis-identifications of these files in the past are cleared as well.

I have delete both folders of the caches that you mention and then tried the Plex Dance.

In the middle of the plex dance before adding again the folders of the TV Show it should remove all data related to the TV show right

They didn’t clear but when I enter one of them it says unavailable.

/volume2/Data_1/Series/iZombie/Season 02/iZombie.S02E14.720p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.H264-RARBG.mkv

What folder does the Plex library point to. Plex expects the first folder to be the name of the show so if your library doesn’t point to /volume2/Data_1/Series/ the results can be unexpected, even if they worked in the past.

The library is that one. /volume2/Data_1/Series/

bellow that as one folder for each Serie and bellow that the Seasson folder and then the file

Ok. I see you sent Ottokerner your logs already so I’ll let him handle checking that for you. I just wanted to ask this question in case it was the issue.

If the show isn’t being cleared out, you either missed a step in the dance or there is another issue preventing the dance from working properly. Hopefully this will be cleared up from your logs.

Lets see what Ottokerner gets from the logs.

Thanks

You should not enter any show folders if the scanning process is not complete.

The files in your ‘iZombie’ folder look perfectly regular and a properly executed Plex Dance should make them available.

I found this:
Feb 29, 2016 16:37:01 [0xedbffb70] ERROR - [Notify] Failed to add watch for /volume2/Data_1/Series/Vikings (13: Permission denied)

Have you checked permissions on these folder(s)? The Syno FAQ (Q5) mentions users Plex and admin
I am no Synology expert, better refer to the pro’s in the Synology subforum on how to change permissions.

What are these metadata subfolders?
/volume2/Data_1/Series/The Walking Dead/Season 01/metadata
They don’t belong to Plex. Your Series library is full of them. I don’t know whether they interfere with the Plex scanners, but it is something to keep an eye on or to get rid of as a precaution.

Your Plex database needs an optimization

Feb 29, 2016 16:37:45 [0xef335b70] WARN - SLOW QUERY: It took 220.000000 ms to retrieve 44 items.

You have loads of non-ascii characters in the file and folder names of your music library. You may have trouble recognising local/embedded cover art or sidecar song lyrics.

/volume1/music/Da Weasel/07 Amor, Esc\xc3\xa1rnio e Maldizer [CD] 2007
But that is just an aside remark.

in the localmedia.log there is this:

but I am unsure what causes this. It repeats for almost every show in your library.

it appears TheTVDB still returns an invalid answer for ‘The Flash’

or you did not clear the agent caches, yet

The system log shows some difficulties Plex accessing itself

I remember seeing this a few days ago in another log. I think a fix has been scheduled for the next major release.

Now gotta go for while.
I relayed the log files to @MovieFan.Plex for reference

Your Plex database needs an optimization

Is that anything like: “This town needs an enema?”

But on a more serious note: What is the recommended interval between optimizations? Is the default of “Optimize database every week” good enough or should it be done more often?

And is there any potential downside to performing an optimization. I know that something like a system crash or a power loss during optimization would be bad but are there other things to watch out for or avoid. Also what happens if other database functions, like adding media, happens during the optimization process?

The database has internal locks that get enabled to prevent conflicting actions to the file. The optimization is only really needed if you’ve done a lot of deleting or editing of the data in the database. Databases will often leave hole in the database file when things get deleted, so it is not wasting time rewriting the entire database back after these changes. Optimizing cleans this stuff out, think of it as a defrag on the database file. I hardly ever need to optimize my database because I never delete anything. The automatic once a week should be fine for most people. If you do something significant lake redoing a library or a Plex Dance on a large TV series, I would do the optimize right away.
