How to Restore one Library - Deleted Accidentally

I'm kicking myself.  So I deleted my Movie library in the Plex Media Server.  I confused the DELETE option to EMPTY when I wanted my removed movies off the library i had removed from the folder.  I know I know, there was a warning telling me that it couldn't be undone, but I read it as I already clicked on the OK button.  I did click on the Cancel button when I realized, but the library is still gone :'(  I closed Plex Media server, but I still see that Plex Transcoder process still running.

I do have a Time Machine backup from two months ago but I don't know what to restore to only bring back the preference that included all my libraries.  Also, the backup is most likely from a previous version of Plex.

  • I watch a lot of TV Shows (Its own library) and I don't want to lose the watch history.
  • What file/folder do I restore to bring back the preference that included my Movie library?
  • I have the thumbnail cache files enabled, so when I rewind or fast forward I can see where I am in the process.  I'm OK with these files being recreated for anything new I've added since that two month backup. I just don't want the server to have to rebuild that cache folder all over again.  I'm figuring that when I deleted the Movie library, the cache files related to the Movie library also got deleted.  I will need to know what folder to restore.

Please help!!!  I tried searching on here and didn't find anything that met my situation.

*** Update ***

I found that there is a backup file that gets created every day for the database under ~\Library\Application Support\\Plex Media Server\Plig-in Support\Databases\.  I restored the last backup file.  I have all my movies showing up minus the files that were downloaded since yesterday.  The scan ran and the few movies were updated.  However, now the dashboard is empty.  If I open the TV Shows or Movies library separately, I can see them under "All", but if I switch the view to "Recently Added" or "On Deck", nothing shows up.  What am I missing?

So after some more searching I found exactly what I needed to restore the latest database properly.  After following these steps I returned my Plex Media Server back to latest database backup, which was last night.  Thank goodness!!!!  Please remove that darn delete button from the same drop down as the other options.  Too dangerous.

I just did exactly this too!

Realise it was my own stupid fault, and very grateful for the ease of recovery features built in, but would like to see those options separated!

Took me a while to figure out why my TV Shows library had disappeared, as I had emptied the trash on auto pilot and didn't even realize what I had just done!

bumping because I just did this, for the 2nd time now when trying to empty the trash. I don’t understand why a totally routine button (trash) is right next to an obviously dangerous button, or why the button even exists. who deletes their plex libraries? it should be moved into the settings tab.

Hi, I also deleted my pictures 1500 and my music from my mac my accident how do I restore on plex? I have a mac and don’t have time machine setup. I also have a database backup file but I don’t know what to do with it.

If you delete your files on your harddrive, then there is no way with plex to restore them.
In the Plex Database Backup are inly metadata not the files.

Yes, I deleted them off of my hard drive because it asked me if I wanted to delete them. All I want to do is remove the playlists. I have never had a program that deleted files off of my hard drive. Now I know better. I will never use Plex again.
