I’m looking for a way to modify a player’s XML profile to make the server transcode audio every time.
The reason? Chromecast support has been broken for more than a year :
So until that gets fixed, the only solution is to ask the Plex server to transcode audio down from 5.1 to stereo for every file. Does anyone knows how to get that done???
I need this as well. My chromecast is hooked up to an HDMI/SPDIF splitter that goes to my stereo amplifier. Sending multi channel audio to that makes our dogs loose their fur and my ears to bleed.
What a constructive comment nigelpb : problem with Plex? Dump Chromecast!
I’ve been totally happy with every other app working with the three CC I own. And Plex was, until recently, one of them. But for some reason the devs don’t care at all about Chromecast. If you check the changelogs, it’s the most underdeveloped of Plex’s apps. And if you check the thread in my original post, you’ll see I’m far from being the only one having that problem.

You may not like the answer but as I said it’s what I would do. Why bang your head against a wall & then complain it hurts when there is a simple solution. There are many better streaming clients than a Chromecast & I own several of them & don’t own a Chromecast so I already solved the problem before it occurred.
I have similar problem: My idiotic Philips 49PUS7100 can’t play audio with bitrate more than 320kbps which crashes the player when trying to play dca (DTS). Since last year the xml profile is apparently ignored and the player is trying to direct play it.
Well abixbh I have pretty much the same problem with Chromecast : I tried modifying the XML profile for Plex to transcode every time but nothing seems to work. Surely there must be a way to make it transcode every time!
