My Sonic Analysis process appeared to be stuck; however, it was just taking 24 hours to process one album. I have built several neural nets in my current job and know how many of the internals of machine learning work. I had moved my podcast folder into my music folder a few months back rather than making a new library and did not think this would cause any issues. It did not until I turned Sonic Analysis on. Due to the way machine learning works, the length of each MP4 matters a lot. In my podcasts folder, many of the MP4s were 4 hours long. Because there is not a feature to filter long MP4s out of the Sonic Analysis process (maybe a future enhancement), the process was taking an extremely long time per 4 hour MP4.
If you remove all large MP4’s from your Music library and put them in to their own library, you can turn Sonic Analysis on for ONLY the music library (which will no longer contain any long MP4’s).
This will greatly speed up the Sonic Analysis process.
The analysis process time is not linear to the MP4’s run time length, it is exponential. If a 5 minute song take 1 minute to process a 10 minute song will not process in 2 minutes. It will take much more than 2 minutes.
