How to Uninstall Plex?

Several years back, I tried Plex.

I didn’t have time to get past the learning curve before it started asking for money, so I just stuck with Kodi.

I think I uninstalled it from the Programs settings, but I don’t remember. I also can’t tell you what version I was running.

Right now, I am trying to free up space on my NAS drive, and I found 245,000 files coming to 8.6GB on there that I deleted. That took 8 hours.

Just now, I got an error saying that the folder could not be deleted because it was not empty. So I select the folder and clicked the delete key. Now it is building another file list, preparing to delete. It is already up to 40,000 files, but it shows 0 bytes total.

So, Plex must still be running somewhere. It isn’t in Add/Remove Programs.

How do I discover what I install years ago? It has been probably 5+ years ago, because that’s how long I have been using Kodi on this PC.

That being said… from what you describe that doesn’t sound like your files are actually coming from Plex. If you 're not running it and if you’re not adding files, Plex won’t download additional metadata or even grow its data folder
So you might want to check your overall setup for some other stowaways.

As for

I didn’t have time to get past the learning curve before it started asking for money…

You might have missed something.
The list of free/paid scope hasn’t changed that much during the last years – at least not when it comes to the basic features. You can run your server just fine without paying a single $

Hi Tom and thanks for the quick response.

My main question for starters is how would I determine where I had Plex installed?

I know using a Windows Installer places files in a different location than if I had used the Windows Store app, and I think I also saw an option to install it on my Linux NAS drive.

I’m not very good at Linux, and I am going to have to Google how to telnetted into that box again.

That’s hard to tell… you could check out your registry for signs of former / active Plex Media Server installations. Assuming it’s Plex that’s cluttering your system (for the sake of argument  ) Plex should be installed on that system. If it’s on a NAS, it won’t clutter your local system.

The files I am finding are on the NAS drive, and that leads me to believe it’s installed on the NAS somehow.

Darn. I’ve got to figure out how to telnet into my NAS now. lol

Thanks for your help!
