How to uninstall/reinstall using backup on MacOS?

Hi @nibbles! Thanks so much for all the info. You’re amazing.

I feel really stupid but I can’t find where to enable to crash logging in PMS settings. I’ve searched and couldn’t find it there, either. :frowning:

I don’t have any other plugins installed but there were still a couple in the plugins folder which I’ve removed. There was not a system.bundle but there was a services.bundle. I don’t know if that could have been the offending item?

If you can let me know how to re-enable the crash detection, I’ll get that done ASAP. Sorry, I couldn’t find that. Feeling like an idiot.

PMS is currently running so I could try to find the crash detection. Once I know where that setting is & turn on crash detection again, do I just wait till it crashes then do the log pull again before restarting PMS?

Exactly.

The option is located in your server Settings → General (bottom one)

Bottom General

below you can see the Send crash reports & Save

Send Crash Log

But you said:

Well it’s not there now, lol. PMS will recreate any bundle it needs from out of the App itself or download it again. It’s a nice feature, but cmon we got only seven days to build this house

@nibbles, enabled crash logs and just waiting for the inevitable crash now.

Good to know about PMS creating any bundle it needs. I didn’t mind getting rid of those at all, if that’s what I somehow implied. I really want to get this working. I’m assuming that the system.bundle wouldn’t be somewhere else other than Plugins folder that I’d need to delete?

I don’t even have 7 days now… We’ve had back to back family emergencies. My mother in law fell, shattered her femur, and had to have emergency surgery to place a rod from her hit to her knee replacement. And a few days later, we got a call that my brother in law is dying and not expected to live through the weekend. We’ve moved the trip up to try to see him before he passes and bc my MIL is still in the hospital and not able to make decisions for my BIL, my spouse has had to deal with all the paperwork getting him into hospice. And I’m having two surgeries in the next 2.5 weeks. It’s been freaking crazy. :frowning:

I noticed on my Mac that my Plug-ins folder is empty meaning PMS doesn’t write anything there as part of it running normally.

ls -l ~/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Plug-ins
total 0

Might as well quit PMS, move anything in your Plug-ins folder to a backup spot, and restart.

Reading your threads I think you’ll be nearly perfect on your journey, because like Ty,
your  is in it.

@nibbles, hello!

I thought maybe it was fixed but it finally crashed again overnight. :frowning: Here’s the logs with the new crash info. I made sure to grab them before restarting.

PMSlogs.zip (7.1 MB)

Well I blew that when I misunderstood where the crash reports are stored and my zip command missed that directory. I’m sorry I didn’t think it through well enough.

It creates a crash report in
~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Crash Reports/

So here is a new command that grabs both logs and crash reports.

zip -r PMSlogs ~/Library/Logs/"Plex Media Server" ~/Library/"Application Support"/"Plex Media Server"/"Crash Reports"

I tested that command and it works as written. If you ran that after a crash before PMS was restarted you would gather everything for whatever employee might stop bye. Again sorry.

@sa2000 would you please help?

the summary is a Mac Mini M1 with PMS 1.29.1 crashes at night.
Rolled back to 1.28.2.6151 after seeing nothing in the logs. It still crashes.
Removed all user plugins, no benefit. The user has a lot invested into their db.

@nibbles, no worries. Thanks so much for putting me know. Just waiting for another crash.

It doesn’t seem to be crashing quite as often but does seem to still be crashing overnight for some reason. I’m wondering what processes are going on that might be causing those crashes. I’ll post back as soon as it crashed again with the additional logs. Thanks so much!

Thanks for understanding. I wish we had some help, but we can keep trying.
There was a new PMS today that addressed crashing when cleaning bundles which can happen overnight during scheduled tasks. Maybe it was for you  (glass half full)

@nibbles, hi! Here are the logs with the crash data from overnight. Hopefully they will help. It crashed again overnight.

Gonna try the new version. I still have 1.28x, anyway and it can’t be worse. Fingers crossed!

@nibbles, I was pretty nervous to try the new beta, given the issues I’ve been having - but given those issues, I figured that it likely wouldn’t be worse.

Well, so far…no crashes! I haven’t been able to do a lot of work, given our travel and difficult family emergencies but fingers crossed! Maybe they isolated and fixed that bug. I would be SOOOOO happy about that!

I’ll post back if there are any more crashed but I’m cautiously optimistic, given this is the first time in weeks that we haven’t had an overnight crash - and this is two days in a row.

Thanks again for all of your help!

@nibbles, I didn’t really get the chance to thank you for all of your help with my Plex server. Without your assistance, I never would have had it working. But thanks to your suggestions, I didn’t lose it once on our trip, which ended up being longer than expected by quite a bit due to a death in my immediate family plus my surgeries and a life threatening fall my mother in law took that also required emergency surgery. Honestly, it seems kinda small given everything else we were dealing with but having our Plex media accessible so we could escape the stress for a bit each night with familiar TV shows/movies, literally kept us sane. Anyway, I wanted to make sure to come back and thank you, sincerely, for all of your help. I truly appreciate it!
