Server Version#: Plex Media Server v1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c
Player Version#: n/a
MacOSX version: 10.15.7,
It was working OK running High Sierra …then I upgraded to Catalina and all hell broke loose. The MacMini is a 2012 with the i5 processor, 16GB ram, and SSD HD, the libraries are located in a thunderbolt-connected 5TB RAID enclosure. It runs a few different things, but through process of elimination I’ve determined that the PMS is responsible for the crashes.
when I run the following cmd: 62 is hung application:
MacMini:~ admin$ log show --predicate 'eventMessage contains "Previous shutdown cause"' --last 24h
Filtering the log data using "composedMessage CONTAINS "Previous shutdown cause""
Skipping info and debug messages, pass --info and/or --debug to include.
Timestamp Thread Type Activity PID TTL
2020-12-01 02:02:37.930631-0500 0xab Default 0x0 0 0 kernel: (AppleSMC) Previous shutdown cause: -62
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this has been going on for a while now, and it’s always the same…seems to happen about 2am (which is when the Maintenance starts) . I downloaded my log bundle but Im not seeing any place where I can share it.
Is anyone else having this problem and if so, what did you do to fix it ?
Mod-Edit: added code tags to improve readability of the copied terminal output
have you tried installing the latest version of PMS – I haven’t seen any specific fixes for Mac issues in the last releases… but you never know
have you checked the logs from the Plex Media Server? Those might give you some actual insight into what is happening when the system is crashing.
If running the PMS is causing a system crash or a kernel panic you can get the logs directly from your file system: ~/Library/Application Support/Logs/Plex Media Server/
I was browsing through the logs in ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server
the crash reports are empty… I was thinking it may be related to the maintenance running and found this in the scanner logs
Does this look like something that would crash Mac OS ?

I discovered the attachment button and attached my logs … thanks in advance for any help
The more interesting parts are the “endings” of the Plex Media Server[.#].log files and the errors found there. However your logs are quite generic.
Can you go to Settings > [Server Name] > General and check Enable Plex Media Server debug logging (but keep Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging disabled!) and share the updated logs after experiencing the error/crash again?
Same thing happened again early this morning at 2020-12-07 02:05:29.097962-0500
(this is 5 mins after scheduled tasks start )
I set my scheduled tasks like SE56 suggested
attached logs , having a look myself
thanks

this morning I set the scheduled taks to begin at 11:00 am , and I opened up the system console to watch and see if there was anything logged that would explain the OS crashes … no joy there.
…at 11:04 the OS went down again , I pulled a log bundle to have a look and I don’t see anything that would explain what’s happening . I’m about the throw in the towel and say solong plex , but maybe someone can make some sense of what’s happening .
FYI, once the system rebooted and plex restarted upon login, it rebooted again (about 11:10 ) , not sure if the tasks restarted or what .
Thanks in advance for any help provided .

Sorry, I just realized the debug level logging wasn’t enabled. so I enabled that and set the schedule tasks to 3pm, and like clockwork it rebooted the Mac again .
I’m wondering if this is what’s causing the crashing (from the deep analysis log) :
I ran the below cmd on the CLI and the mac rebooted (good times)

How can I determine what item 2417 is …or better yet, stop the scanner altogether ?
In the settings, you can set loudness scans to “never” (which I did) … but it makes no difference , the Mac crashed again next time the scheduled tasks ran. wtf.
