I have searched over and over and over, and not one thread seems to have clear, precise instructions on how to update the plex media server software on unraid. Can someone please guide me (a novice) on how to do this without being complicated? How is their no official documentation for this anyways?
I too have the same question. There is a new update that can be downloaded from plex.tv version (1.11.3.4803) as of 4 days ago (15 Feb 2018–specifically for unRaid) and my UI keeps telling me it is available, but you can’t just download and install it. Clicking “Check for Updates” in the dockers screen, tells me everything is up to date.
The lack of response to this thread makes me nervous about the support for this application. Either it is so simple and I am missing something or it will happen automatically and I’m not being patient enough. I’ve updated several other dockers through the dockers check for updates button, but nothing shows up for the Plex docker.
Can someone tell me how this works? I’ve only been on PMS for unRaid (and that long for unRaid for that matter) less than a month and I understand that the update fixes many of the Live TV issues I am having. A little help would be appreciated. If I can or need to do this manually, please break it down for me. Now that it is installed apparently installing the linuxserver.io version is out of the question. Tried removing Plex.tv version and installing there’s, broken. Had to uninstall it and reinstall the official docker from Plex again. Please help!
im amazed that nobody has responded with anything. Sure seems like these support forums are just a waste of time with absolutely no support. I contacted plex about some other issues and they tell me to post them here and no help is given. Time to cancel plex pass and find a different docker that doesn’t require a computer engineering degree to update the bloody software. Where does the money go we pay in monthly subscription fees? For a company that charges the same amount of money as netflix but doesn’t have the overhead of licensing fees because they don’t provide the media we watch, i just don’t get it.
There are multiple developers of Plex when you run Dockers in unRaid.
But you uppdate them all the same way, you get a push notice then you head over to the Dashboard and left click the Plex icon and choose update.
Most likley you know that since you probably have run unRaid longer then i have.
Plex official Docker are kinda slow on updating the app, don’t know if the other developers are faster pushing updates, but i would assume so.
Plex overall is pretty effing bad with taking care of there paying customers.
But thats just me rambling out loud.
@aenglish86 I tried to respond to your other post but there was not reply box. weird… the instructions to update are here: github.com/plexinc/pms-docker/blob/master/README.md
but they are not explicit. you should be able to stop and restart your container and then it will do the update. Have you tried that already?
yes i tried stopping and starting the container and nothing. i think the best thing to do would be to find a new repository that is more on the ball with updates. Since the previous update, certain tv series seasons have stopped working properly (either video won’t play but audio will or audio won’t play but video will) Also looking at other media server software as plex with plex pass just isn’t cutting it for me anymore with all the recent problems I’ve been having if this recent update doesn’t fix things.
You just have to wait for the container to be updated with the new version of Plex. Unraid will notify you when one of your docker container have a newer version available to update, is at that point when you may actually received the new server version if the container was updated with the latest version of plex.
found the solution in another post, if you have plexpas and using the oficial docker do this
“Repository: plexinc/pms-docker:plexpass
Version: latest
This will give me the latest Plex Pass release once I restart the Docker container.”
