How to upload/catalog my thousands of purchased movies into an library?

Hi I am very new in Plex, fact is that I was looking for easy app to catalog all my movies that I have at home. I have read reviews on many apps and Plex seamed to be the one to help, after downloading Plex I can not find the way of HOW to put all my movies into a library. I hope there is better way than loading all of them into my computer one by one. Scanning barcodes maybe? Please help, I am searching for good app for months! Nothing seams to work like I want, either it scans into a raw list of names or makes un-manageable library.

Edit - I noticed you have a Plex Pass. Purchasing a Plex Pass wasn’t necessary for using the server and standard features.

Plex simply isn’t a DVD/Blu-ray catalog system. It’s a library playback system to use with all your ripped to hard drive movies.

A free Trakt.tv account and app like Movist on the iPhone would be a better option.

If all of your movies are on dvd/bluray you will nee to use some sort of ripping application. MakeMKV is a possible choice, but there are others.

For movies, too, as @trumpy81 said, you can have your movies in individual folders. I go a step further. Each movie is in an individual folder, and then there are 28 folders that these movie specifics go into. One for numbers, one for each letter of the alphabet and one for special characters.

There are a couple of reasons I do this. If I need to move a folder for a movie for whatever reason, I look at the title, and go straight to the folder and move everything for that movie in one fell swoop. (Yes, I know MKV’s I could just move a file instead of a folder, but I HATE that container.)

Last but not least, Plex Media Server is for STREAMING media. putting them into some sort of DB so you can find the disk on shelf 12B isn’t Plex’s strong suit. In fact it isn’t geared towards this activity at all. It’s designed so you can watch any of your media on your TV at home, your friends TV or PC, your tablet or your phone while riding on a bus or at a motel. No longer any need for finding that disk that isn’t in its case, or finding the case for what’s in the dvd player… It all sits on a hard drive (or array of them) in a computer, and gets read as needed.
