How\Whether to Save Metadata from my current installation

I currently have a pretty large media library installed on a DAS connected to an old desktop computer that I am in the process or replacing. On my Yoga730 where my current Windows PMS and all its metadata reside, my Movies directory is pointed to M:, which is a mapped drive pointing to the R:\Movies subdirectory on the old desktop computer that I am replacing. I have a similar situation for my other media directories on my Yoga730 where my current Windows PMS is located (utilizing other mapped drives pointing to different drives and directories on the old desktop computer). Given that my new desktop computer is going to host my Windows PMS, I won’t be utilizing mapped drives. It am concerned that if I backup my Windows PMS, restoring it on the new computer will not work, as the pointers to my media files are going to be all wrong.

I’ve spent a number of hours matching my media in Plex and setting up collections, etc. What can I do to salvage all that work? Can I restore my current Windows PMS to the new desktop, then just change the media directory locations in my new Windows PMS install and keep my matched media and collections, etc.?

What does this mean? Will you be using UNC paths instead?
Can’t you solve this by giving the media drives the exact same drive letters they currently have on your old server?

If you really have to change all the paths/adresses of your media files, you may want to look a this: [HowTo] Plex database modification - Moving media the right/wrong way - #10 by jelwell

Holy ■■■■, someone should re-write that post and link to that instead. The code shown there is horrible and probably already ■■■■■■ up many peoples databases.

No explanation of what is the old path and what the new path. Also no example how the path is on Windows systems.
